Default CO2 and the surface

Patrol 27: Report to area Abuse and await further orders.

Date: August 10, 1944.

Departing from Fremantle.

No problem. Loadout: 16 type 34 fish; 8 (four fore, 4 aft; Cuties)

I'm in the area arounf area abuse, and I get the message:

Radar Contact, bearing 345 degrees, long range.

Again, no problem.

Set dive planes for 165 ft.

At 160' I order ahead slow.

I cruise like this for 90 minutes.

Order Periscope depth.

Radar incates target moving away "very fast".

Again no problem.

I order surface and speed to flank.

Problem: once on the surface, the CO2 guage is still rising.

Long story short, I ran out of air on the surface.

Hints anybody?

Do you Alt-Tab out of the game?

If you do, don't. It's been reported to cause this very issue.

Did you forget to tell the crew to open the hatch?

I've never had it happen, but I've heard this bug happens when you Alt-Tab out of the game and back. I have had the crew remain on deck while under water because of this.

Try saving and reloading.

Nope.

Don't even know what "alt-tab" is or does.

The only time I use the "Tab" button is to zoom in on the map.

I died, of course.

However, when I reloaded the patrol to start over, it did not happen even when I stumbled upon a large convoy.

Took out the 3 escorts (submerged), and took out eight of nine ships(submerged). Took the last one out runing on the surface firing the deck gun.

Made it all the way back to Fremantle.

if you find that your crew is running out of air, it means the game has trouble recognizing you are on the surface, save the game, and then reload it, if you are still having troubles forcing your watch crew to come up, submerge, save, reload, and then surface after you re-loaded your game.

Yep! Had the co2 bug bite me last night too. Been playing this game on and off since it came out and this was the first time for me. Saved and reloaded and it went away. I was in area "cornfield" when it happen. But having it happen in area "abuse" seems more appropriate.

it will happen when you taskswitch around in windows, so alt-tabbing introduces it among other things

a workaround is to be in the control room at 1x TC while taskswitching

a fix is to save-reload

when visiting these forums for example, while the game is running: the best way to keep the game bug-free is by being in the CR in real time when you alt-tab out of the game

don't ask me why

Do you know if doing it this way will pause the game while you are tabbed out, or will time continue to pass?

SH3 will keep running, SH4 will freeze the game as long as you aren't there
