Stupid Rough Weather!
This is a problem, and someone needs to make a mod to fix this!
Here's the story: A U-Boat finds a lone C3 cargo ship in stormy weather. The cargo ship has no means to defend itself, so there is no reason for the U-boat to remain submerged. The captain surfaces the sub, and, being only a few hundred meters away from the cargo ship, he orders his men to man the deck gun! But, just as he does so, a dialogue box pops up, saying: "Deck gun cannot be manned in rough weather." Cursing, the captain orders torpedo after torpedo fired at the C3, but each misses. He dives, and leaves the boat be. Yes, I'm sure its happened to everyone. Do we really need this feature of the game? 85% of the time, the Atlantic water is rough, so 15% of the time, we get to use the deck gun! Any ideas? |

There has been many mods to change this. I wouldn't call it "fix" since it isn't unrealistic, but everyone has there opinions. Just do some searching around and you will inevitably find the mod for this.
However, being unable to shell a C3 in stormy weather would be the least of your problems if you can't hit the same C3 with a torpedo merely hundreds of yard away.

Ah, you were too close to the boat then. I just wouldn't have surfaced in the first place, but at this close range, zig-zagging could possibly throw you off too much. Back up until the C3 is about 600 meters away (Dunno the conversion) and fire off your torps. They need to arm before they hit, otherwise they just bounce off.

I remember something similar when in heavy fog. The ship only becomes visible when within 200 meters so you can't fire torps since they won't arm.
I this case, you have to learn to fire based on hydrophone localization. I've tried it a couple of times sine I am no expert. I got one hit but missed the other couple of times but I blame this on real lack of experience. I lpan to work on it so that when I have my XXI and can fire from 50 meters, I know how to do it. BP |

To fix this problem go to SH3\data\Submarine\*Your Sub Type*\
open file NSS_Uboat9c.cfg, find line "StormConditions=7,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]" and change StormConditions value to StormConditions=30,30.1 After this you may fire you deck gun in any weather conditions.
