You need to go to your nvidia control panel and set Antialiasing to application controled run the game once then you can set the antialiasing to what ever you had before. if it doesn't work with the setting you had before try different settings. If it was on 4X set it to2X or 8X I don't know why but it should work as it worked for me.

If Karbo's solution didn't work and you have some big codec packs or ffdshow on your pc, then run a forum search with "ffdshow". That'll give you more possible solutions. It's known that the main menu background video and ffdshow don't get along very well.

i thank u very much it first didnt solved the problem but app controled is balanced ( doest work ) i set it to the highest settings.. and there it is sh4 uboat missions is also installed
im running this and it working like a charm, only a few short questions,

I knew with pressing the num delete key you can get rid of the meters and stuff .
but what key to press to get rid of the arrow or the simbol of where i am or do i ave to addapt an cfg file
its so long ago when i played it i cant remember this..

and another question, are the mods for sh4 1.4 still working under uboat mission (1.5 ) or are there new mods for 1.5?
is this also for all the reskins?

The graphic drivers are probably the issue. I too use Nvidia and have had constant BSOD with nvlddddd something or another. It seems that if i had postprocc checked it would crash, so I unchecked it.
I use to get the black screen with the 174 drivers, so I reverted back to 169 version.
I'd say that the drivers are so buggy that if your not setup just so it will crash, play with them till the game stops crashing.

This is with a EVGA8800GTX on Vista64
