Just in under the wire. That's it, a French torpedo boat with a funky bridge.

Thornycroft TB's.
https://www.naval-encyclopedia.com/w...-torpedo-boats

I have to confess it does look like there are two torpedo tubes under the spar torpedo but I have to go with the documentation.

Would never have guessed that, even with all the given clues

Nice one

I PM'd d@rk51d3 that I was helping out only and the win was to him; and that he should put up a new puzzle. But for his post, I'd never even have come close.

This famous .50 cal weapon which earned it's user accolades, including a gold engraved watch, for most of his long productive life was used in the last battle of the Civil War according to some historians. The event has had an impact on me personally. Big hint: the weapon was recently reacquired and is at a museum commemorating the battle which is celebrated and re-enacted yearly. The battle has been the subject of several movies. Where and who used the weapon?

I think Stork100 has it

"SN 21020. Cal. 52. Standard Civil War issue Smith carbine with 21-1/2″ oct to rnd bbl, half nickel front sight and short, carbine ladder rear sight."

Stork nails it! That was quick! My college is in Northfield and I used to bank at the First National Bank during my four years there and played in the Jessie James day Rugby Tournament
https://entertainmentguidemn.com/hen...eld-bank-raid/ The carbine is now in the museum; seen here in front of the bank vault. Some historians believe that Jessie James &Co was conducting a Confederate Raid on a Bank believed to be owned by ex Union officers. Instead the gang ran into a bunch of ex-Yankees....and their single shot carbines! I attended the premier of The Great Northfield Raid movie in '72 when it premiered at the theater in Northfield! Over to Stork
