You'll never be able to patch the game with TDW Generic Patcher!!!

Advice.

SH5.exe patches to fix bugs and add functionality

For Steam versions of the SH5.exe:
Unable to provide solution to Steam users. The steam sh5.exe uses a form of self-modifying code copy protection that 'unpacks' the code when the executable is run. This form isn't impossible to read and decipher it just takes longer and quite frankly the reward to time relationship isn't worth it for me (not to mention that I can't run the .exe since I don't own the steam version of the game - I own the boxed version of the game). Sorry all. This is one reason why I never buy Steam based games unless I have to.

I got my version from game stop downloads. The end result, I ended up just using the product code then downloaded and installed it through Uplay.

I am not familiar with Steam, but I wonder if that would be possible for you?

Default Same problem with Amazon?

Does anyone know if you would have the same problems with mods etc. if you download from Amazon? I am just afraid I will buy the game on Amazon and then be told to register with Steam...

When you buy from Amazon, you basically download a self-installing copy of the game. You don't get to keep a copy of the install package. That stays with Amazon, although you can re-download as needed. But it is a straight commercial copy of the game, with Ubi's standard DRM, not the Steam version. And, if you use the Amazon link on this page, SubSim gets a (small) kickback. It's all good!

Default Amazon

I have heard so many times how buggy SHV is so I never bought it...just stayed with SH4 but saw it on amazon download for $5.95. I have not had any problems except for the depth under keel bug which has an easy workaround. I am very happy with this game. I also just installed my first MOD IRAI by the dark wraith, makes the enemy much smarter.

Only if he used the Subsim Amazon link to get there, which I doubt since he just joined.
