SHO Quick Q about a mission

I'm on the Pride of the Royal navy mission in the Happy Times campaign, I've actually done pretty good its November an I've gotten every mission done so far so I've got 4 months to complete this 1. Anyway it says I have to sink 2 capital war ships on escort duty, I'm pretty sure a normal escort ship wouldnt count so what kind of war ships would I be looking for?? The first area I'm suppose to patrol is actually outside the big area of operations circle is that right??

The cap-ship mission has its own map area overlapping the merchant tonnage mission; eventually, using radio message or your sonar- mans hidden enemies passive skills locate a warship task force which will have a carrier and Eliz. class battleship and possibly a cruiser. set eels at 6-7 meters and take the carrier with one eel and the battle ship with two or more. don't forget to preheat the eels. An oncoming bow shot is best for both vessals. the group generally is at 17 knots if u have to choose.

Many thanks will the group be inside or outside the circled area? Because right now my first designated area to patrol is actually outside the circled area right next to the red line showing the route the escorts take to the circled area. Ive never set them that deep for those ships but I have encountered groups like that b4 I always try to get infront of the group set my self up so that when they get by me I'm inside the security circle.

Forget the designated area to patrol when u have a firm or reliable contact; always steer for the sound of the guns. The old lion is very understanding. Always penetrate the task force head-on as the high speed makes them unchaseable and the lead escort's sonar is generally nil due to the dense engine sounds of so many highspeed engines. Have the bosun ready to help with reloading and again preheat the eels. Carriers go up very nicely and the bow-hit battleship's velocity will drive it under. Dive deeply afterwards and escape.

The Old Lion was understanding, met the first group outside the designated circle area penetrated easy enough but easy went out the window after that. When I got to scope depth which I set my self at 13 instead of 11 like the game does I notice the AC was way on the other side of the inner defense circle but I saw a battleship an a cruiser I hit the cruiser twice an took it out an the other 2 I sent at the battleship, but 1 was a dud. But the 1 that did hit it slowed it down pretty good which was lucky for me in the end, cuz thanks to the IRAI mod the destroyers came at me w/ a vengeance eventually I was able to come back to scope depth an launched 2 from the stern tube finishing the battleship. When I checked I got credit for only 1 capital ship the cruiser didnt count. So when I returned after refitting I got caught b4 i was ready an had to run, but in all the confusion the AC ended up outside the escort protection an a horrible storm kicked up huge waves an a straight down pour of rain. I just had a glimpse of the AC outside the group b4 it slipped into the darkness. So I figured being behind them in a storm w/ super rough seas I'd be able to come up from behind, I chased them for over an hour real time not seeing them but the sound guy using his passive ability said they were right in front of us an not far. I knew I was close behind the AC an when I got the lock thing showin up in the UZO I fired blind pretty much 4 different times but had to wait till i saw the lock thing pop up to fire each time hearing a huge explosion not even a full minute after firing, then i saw the stars fillin an knew I'd done it. It was tense boring an fun all at the same time lol

Well done, sorry not to emphasize skipping the cruiser

It's cool at least I know what it looks like now, that was the first time I'd seen a cruiser.

There are two basic types. The Dido and the three stack Kent. Ignore the ship recog draft info and set for three meter on Dido; never waste more than 1 eel on those. Kents on the other hand can take a deeper running eel but ,while totally afire, require another eel to finish. This is critical later in the campaign especially in the south Atlantic where cruisers are the objective but time, fuel and eels are scarce and Dakar is the closest refit on the African coast to target rich Freetown (the Winston Express) or the mid Atlantic islands where the cruisers lurk in squadrons. It is possible to get to Capetown by meticulously diving and running surfaced to recharge on speed 2 but the air cover is murder and the return to Dakar is very tight. Viel gluck kaleun
