Default Mission: Okhotsk Feedback

This is a mission i have just played in single player i have yet to play it as a multiplayer for that i await bellman.

Quote:
So where is this place?
The mission started for me in the north east of the operational area, for those who do not know where the sea of okhotsk is, il provide a map so you can see.

Okhotsk is located in the russian far east and is the main training ground for the pacific fleet, not only that its home to thousands of used missiles that litter the sea bed.

Okhotsk is known for its wild weather it back onto the bearing sea and bearing straight.

The bearing sea is known for its highly dangerous weather and shallow waters filled with ice.
Quote:
What was my first thought's?
At first i realised this wasnt an ordinary mission, i had red the de brief parts and found the SSBN's were aggressive, so that did have an impact on my load out.
Normaly i would not load out any ASROC missiles, but today i did six of them, when i got into the game i pushed shift I twice to find the ice was in my favour, pack ice rather than solid sheets.

Pack ice is the worst type of ice to come accross in a submarine when your hunting down other submarines or indeed other contacts, its very hard to get a classification and very hard to hear and navigate.

Quote:
Was navigating a challenge?
Yes it was unlike solid ice which is predictable, pack ice is not, it routinely peaks and has many ice burgs and also under layers of ice, so its like trying to navigate through the middle of a sandwich.

i remember taking my eyes off the HF for 3 or 4 mins to raise the scope, i found it was clear and checked the map, and it was but i had the scope ripped off my sail .

Quote:
What did you like about this mission?
It was my sort of mission hard to navigate, hard to find enamy contacts, however in this war i did manage to sink the primary submarine and one escort but failing to sink the third.

One victor III was lost but the SSBN for russia was still alive, the mission was short took only 3 hours 7 minuets.

Quote:
What would you change?
The typhoon as we know there are none in the pacific, the main SSBN's the russians have over there are Delta III but a Delta IV will be fine, just to give it that more realistic touch.

Also what was a trafalgar doing there i didnt understand that, as i was watching the replay i well beyond me.

Quote:
Any advice or tactics?
Get in close enough to take them out with two torpedo's so about 7 or 8 miles, use the tactic hollywood charge thats where you fire two torps in opposite directions then turn them to face the enam, it makes it look like there is two subs firing but the best way is by far using ASROC.

You can get in close very close just to prove it i have some screenshots from a few months ago when i was trailing a Xia class SSBN.

Quote:
What did you like about this mission?
The fact you couldnt predict it, the whole mission was not predictable, the navigational side was extreme and also it was very hard to monover around in such hostile waters as these were at the time.

The ice was by far a great hazard but one that could be used to an advantage, the seawolf whom detected me fired four or five torpedos which all hit one ice burg, i did manage to kill him but only because i back tracked the line of torpedo's and gave a rough guess.

The SSBN was easy to find also it was near the seawolf so i only had to wait another 15 20 mins before i had her.
Quote:

Over all thoughts?
Well changing the russian SSBN definatly and that traffie some one explain that.

Overall though this mission was very very well made and well done i enjoyed it alot i knocked it on a few points but it still got the grade.

92/100 its a very good mission cant wait for the next one.

Thanks for the report K - it is good to get feedback. I have taken onboard the Delta/Pacific point.

The Traf is there for two reasons. First the UK usualy gives the USA military support as recent history shows.
You must remember that we have a debt of honour to be repaid for American support in 2 WWs. So the Trafs
presence has legitamacy as shown in two Gulf Wars, Kosova and Affghanistan. Secondly there are other
more mundane game/role functions at play here.

Four new versions (Okhotsk 2 ) will be for Stock and LwAmi with variants placing Blue under ice in Northern OA.
These have been nicely enhanced by MaHuJa 'engineering'.

Next I'm off to warmer Phillipine waters - a 'Fish ing' scenario. An inter-Group conflict scenario also lingers
in my boatyard but I hope that cooperation with MHJs superior technical services will see launches in the near future.
