Default Opinion on Best Technical English WW2 Sub Book

Fathers day is coming up and Im looking to drop my "order"

I'm after a good sub non-fiction book on WW2, doesnt matter Uboat or Pacific, must be english. I would prefer a book that goes into alot of technical details and provides insights into sub operation. At the sametime ideally it would have descriptions of encounters rather than being a manual on sub operations.

So recommendations please

You can't get any more technical or authentic than this:

Although it doesn't meet your second criteria (to have descriptions of encounters rather than being a manual on sub operations). For that, you definitely want:

United States Submarine Operations in World War 2, by Theodore Roscoe.

This one is highly technical, too. "US Submarines Through 1945" (an illustrated design history) by Norman Friedman.

My favorite all time pac war sub book is "Silent Victory" by Clay Blair and I am currently still reading Roscoe's US Sub Operations book as mentioned above. This one is very good but dated as it was published in 1949. Blair's book is a great read published in the 1990's when Ultra/intelligence info could be divulged.

Both good suggestions as well.

Bill, Bill, Bill, I thought you were better than that. I've been slammed for correcting people's grammar before, but this one I can't let slide:

If it's one, it's a criterion.
