Ain't no crying in trucking, mister. Retire? That is when you put new tires on the car. Right?

I do not plan on fully retiring. I want to obtain a part time job in a low stress position. Something like watering the plants at a garden center. Or maybe taking care of wardrobe at the local strip club.

NO NO RETYRE works well with ol' 'retreads' like me I just pulled a 140 mile (Gotta get those Cosco tyres rotated) on Sunday: called out in the middle of my boat captain's 70th birthday party I was! 24/7 it is in quasi-retirement!

At 65, getting up in the morning and realizing 'that's not daddy!' in the mirror, is enough reincarnation for one day BBY

While returning home late, a vehicle driving erratically in excess of 70 mph in the dark was showering huge sparks for a hundred feet and wobbling badly. As I attempted to pass I noted a young lady with no front left tyre-just the bare rim causing the spark shower! oddly a '05 Corolla exactly like mine- with front wheel drive! I turned on the interior dome-lite- got her attention and motioned her to the shoulder of a busy highway, pulled in behind, and called 911. She was quite upset, crying and incoherent-out of all proportion to a routine flat tyre problem IMHO. After nearly an hour detainment-making sure she did not exit her vehicle on a hazardous roadside, the CHP arrived. Two young officers: they field tested, breathalysed and handcuffed the young lass. The DUI will seem a light case and the lesser of two evils: she would have killed herself or others within a few more miles at that speed on a badly disintegrated rim. The roadway in that area, until a recent just completed and costly renovation, was called Blood Alley.
Well the wheels of justice took their time but the young lady finally got her day in court today(13 months later) before a jury of her peers! Both the defense and prosecution subpoenaed me for the prelim and the 2-day trial and I got to hear the recording of my call to 911 ( Squeaky me: I should join the Vienna boy's choir) from over a year ago. Basically I prevented both a major canyon fire (bone dry windy conditions with all fire signs in the RED) and a head-on collision from a missing LEFT front tire on a rapidly disintegrating left front rim. The chase at 70+ mph was over 4 miles! I still don't know the verdict, as I left immediately after testifying. As the only witness and essentially the 'detaining officer', the judge, both attorney's thanked me; as did the CHP officer "for a great night" and, surprisingly, also the mother and the young lady on trial-apparently she is an only daughter....

Agreed! but that 8 mile long narrow steep grassy canyon has burned on two previous occasions with livestock, melted plastic ranch fences and heavily wooded private residences. The young lady's initial heavy spark episode (of four?) obliterated my windshield/night vision from 3-4 car lengths back!! The blood alley 4-lane commute corridor has enough roadside shrines alongside it to those previously killed there...hence my bothering to intervene to prevent foreseeable harm. After the Lake county disaster (in Fireftr's thread) just north of us-just four months later-with 1200 buildings, two towns, and four dead; a fire is the worst thing out here; usually started from vehcle exhaust pipes, lightning strikes, stupid campers...or causes unknown. EDIT: EGAD! I spoke too soon; this AM's local paper: just five miles north at Anqwin (a small mountain hamlet) 'Tis the fire season...already

Sunnyside Road and Deer Park Road, which was reported at 12:05 p.m., was contained to 12 acres by 3:23 p.m., according to a Nixle Alert sent by the Napa County Office of Emergency Services. Forward progress had stopped, according to the alert. There were no evacuations, and all roads in the area remained open. Suzie Blankenship of Cal Fire said that 13 engines, six air tankers, five water tenders, three crews, two dozers were being utilized.

Default looking for good help

Know anyone or a couple interested in driving escorts to wide loads? We're in the windmill blade hauling business now. Just had an opening for two good escorts. Wanted good drivers, reliable, attention to detail, honest, etc, etc. Working out in the Dakotas now, but might also involve work in Oklahoma. It's seasonal work from spring till fall, and then starts up again next year. PM me and I can give you the guy who can fill you in on the details telephone number.

I think Skybird would be a better fit for us.

Fear not, would not go into politics. I leave that to Skybird.

Rather building a blockhouse and live simple and self-sufficient. With Internet connection to annoy you now and then

Are you talking something like this? Maybe you'd fit in after all.
