I was looking for the front wheel tucked in this far
... but it is the right rear wheel shown on the photo, not the front one. This really fooled me, well played

edit Next guess would have been the Provost, but even there the front strut does not look like the rear wheel here

Me too; only the BP P120 (developed from the P111) is shown in the book... and is photographed from exactly the same angle... and I still didn't spot it! Plus all the photos in the book are b&w

As for your photo, Catfish... this is clearly the nosewheel of an Me262

This really had a twist.. i think you must have been very close already. It was only the hint with the powered controls that led me to it..

@ Jim not a BF 110.
Mapuc asked about a nose wheel and i had agreed.. im almost sure all BF 110 versions were taildraggers.

It is a nose wheel with a twist

@Eichhörnchen A Heinkel, yes, but not the 280.
It was quite advanced and featured two - for Germany of the time - unique features.
