It's possible your rig has a boot.outie instead.

I'M JUST KIDDING!

If I can get it to work on my computer I'll let you know.

Here is a link to the info for the XP Pro OS Steve but I would strongly advise against touching the boot.ini unless your confident you or the person giving the advice/instruction are knowledgeable in what you are doing.

A quick way to get to your Boot.ini steve.

Right click on My Computer icon in the drop down menu choose properties,
- then 'Advanced' tab
- then Startup and Recovery settings. tab

Up top your see boot.ini file click on the edit button to make changes. Just be careful mess up your boot.ini and windows will fail to boot.

Another way:

Start - Run - then type msconfig and hit ok. Your see the boot.ini tab

The best of British Steve....take great care mate (you should be fine once you have confirmation of a backup).

TBH though I would still search the SS forum because I know one or two have performed the operation successfully already, I simply can't remember who they were though

Well, I don't know how to tell if it actually worked or not, but it restarted with no problems, and that's always a good thing.

Well I added the PAE switch and she boots up fine. When I go to My Computer and look at Properties there it still shows only 3.25 GB of RAM. Is it supposed to acknowledge the extra RAM there or not? (I actually have 6 GB of RAM installed, but just getting a full 4 would be nice.)

Also I tried the 3GB switch for XP a while back and couldn't get it to work - the only likely reason I could find was that it probably wouldn't work because I have a 1 GB RAM gfx card and apparently if the video RAM is that high it conflicts with devoting a full 3GB to other processes or something because there's not enough left over given the 3.25 GB limit with XP normally.

But if Windows is recognizing the additional RAM because of the /PAE switch, could I then try adding the /3GB switch as well, would the recognition of the extra RAM make any difference? Or is it strictly one or the other?

The next test is whether the game boots with all the mods enabled I suppose

WHAT?

When I boot it up now it goes to a "Do you want to start in Windows or start XP normally?" screen. The keys don't work, so after 30 seconds it starts in Windows XP, just like always, so I don't worry about it, as it takes three minutes to load everything anyway. The game plays just like always, and I can't tell any difference yet, so I really wasn't concerned enough to say anything.

SO THERE!
