Hi Moony. Big day tomorrow

Babymetal put on a good show, well choreographed dancing etc, very high energy. And they've got legions of fans that know all the cues for massive audience participation. They probably aren't good musos themselves, but doesn't matter their backing musicians are always the best.

I like Bandmaid too, they're very professional. Their product is very polished, even their acoustic stuff is a pleasure to watch and listen to. And of course it's always good to have a gimmick

Speaking of backing musicians....the drummer deserves a payrise.

So that's what a violin prodigy sounds like, and she's only 14, me thinks I'll stick to drinking tea.

September 18, 1970...53 years ago, Jimi Hendrix left this world and was silenced forever, but his influence and mastery of the electric guitar left behind a long and still growing trail of guitarists over the decades who still strive for that level of technique and a grasp of the "Hendrix Tone"; a comment I saw a while back on a YT video of a Hendrix live performance when the commenters were discussing 'the greatest electric guitarist ever' pretty much sums up the stature of Hendrix: No matter who your favorite guitarist is, his [or her] favorite guitarist is almost certainly Jimi Hendrix...

A little bit of electric Blues from Jimi's first album...

The above version is from the UK studio album release of Are You Experienced? and is minus all the echo and effects piled onto the US release of the album; it is actually a single take, live recording, of The Experience; it was this version SRV first heard when he listened to a pre-US release import copy of the album his brother Jimmie had obtained through one of his connections...

Ya think maybe Stevie took a few notes?...

^ Jimmie Lee Vaughan would say that when they were much younger, Stevie Ray Vaughan would listen to Jimi Hendrix a lot. Later, Stevie would put a Jimi Hendrix album on and play along with him.

Stevie Ray Vaughan at his best.

...

Stevie was a huge admirer of Hendrix and would demur when interviewers would try to compare him to Hendrix, saying "There is only one Jimi Hendrix"; SRV even sought out and bought Hendrix memorabilia, including one of Jimi's WahWah pedals, which SRV would use live; Jimi played a inverted Strat, that is, a regular right-handed Strat turne over upside down and thus the trem bar was at the top of the bridge rather than on the bottom: when SRV heard about Jimi's upside down trem, he had his main guitar rerouted and a left handed bridge/trem unit installed to simulate Jimi's setup (and I have also seen photos of SRV playing with a bent down trem bar, which Jimi also used; he even went so far as to install a guitar strap button on the shorter horn f his guitar to emulate Jimi's Strat, but that didn't last long: it was a bear to handle the unbalanced Strat and/or to change a strap on stage)...

Jimi was known for loud, fierce compositions, but he was also very adept at ballads such as Little Wing; here are two of his compositions, the first from Jimi's 2nd studio album Axis: Bold As Love and the second from an album, Cry Of Love, released in the year following his death containing songs he was working on but never really got to fully complete to his satisfaction...

There are a lot of great guitar players, but very few who are/were capable of writing transcendent songs...
