"The rise in antibody levels that we saw with both Moderna and Pfizer are slightly higher than what we saw after the third booster vaccine," said lead researcher and director of the infectious disease unit, Gili Regev-Yochay.
However, "despite increased antibody levels, the fourth vaccine only offers a partial defense against the virus," she added.
Meanwhile, US drugmaker Moderna said its vaccine candidate against the omicron coronavirus variant will enter clinical development in the next few weeks. The company expects to be able to share data with regulators around March, CEO Stephane Bancel said.
The company also aims to roll out a combined COVID-flu-RSV booster vaccine in late 2023, hoping a joint jab would encourage people to get an annual shot.
RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a common virus that causes the cold that can be more serious for infants and elderly people.

Earlier, the EMA already has voiced doubts that a forth jab with the so far existing vaccines does make a lot of sense. There also is the (unproven) thesis that too many jabs could actually exhaust the immune system's reaction to Covid. Its a valid hypothesis that rightfully attracts attention, but so far there is no evidence neither for nor against it. The phenomenon of so-called Anergy is real and is known for sure, however, it means that if T-cells get exposed to attacking germs repeatedly, they kind of "loose interest". Originally this biological trait is meant to protect the body'S cells form certain forms of auto-immune reactions. It must still be demonstrated whether this problem affects T-cells reaction against the Corona virus, too. Some doctors assume that boosters are more useful if not given in shorter but longer intervals.


Meanwhile the German health minister said that for mid-February he expects several hundred thousand infections - per day. According models have been shown already in early Decembre, and the trend since then has supported them.


Personally I agree with those that this year probbaly most of us will get infected - eitehr for the firts tiem, or again. The difference is that most will be under the protective umbrella of vaccinations, so that their chance to get hospitalised or even end up in ICU is dramatically redcued. To let the pandemic run unhindered already last year, would have been a crime. But now it more and more becomes the way to go. The trick is to allow that strategy only with high vaccination rates. In Germany, currently the young ones drive the infections mroe than any other age group: teens, kids, young adults. The old oens currently are the ones with the lowest infeciton rates: they have way higher vaccination rates than the younger ones.
