Default SCX, TA, and Torp Evasion?

I have two installations: SC 1.08 and SC/SCXIIc/SCU.

For the last couple of weeks, I have been playing the stock SC, since I figured that SCX would be more challenging. So, I thought I would start with the stock game to help master the basics.

Yesterday, I was doing some SCX practice. In SC, the TAs get washed out at high speed, but do not fail. In SCX, they fail.

So, what do you do when evading torps?

(1) Do you go to the highest possible speed and wait while the TA is retrieved before going to flank?

(2) Do you go to flank immediately and sacrifice the TA to save your boat? (of course, you should still have one TA left)

Thanks.
