radar The man living at an international airport

Quote:
Takao O, is a farmer living in the Narita International Airport in Tokyo, Japan. Unlike other farmers who left when the airport was built in the 1960s, he chose to stay and continue to cultivate his farmland.

The contrast of the contrasts. Why should he move? He has lived here almost all his life. Respect!

I'm going to look out the window for his farm if I can ever travel via Narita again.

Reminded me of a similar situation here in LA; there was a grand development planned of an ultramodern Design Center complex for all the upscale, high dollar designers and their clientele; all the land was acquired except for one small parcel right in front of the complex's grand entrance:

A Look Back: The Shack with a Swanky Address --

I recall that at the time the sisters did sell the 'shack', the word was they were reluctant to sell mainly because they didn't really want to upend the business that rented the building as they were very good tenants and had become good friend; however, the property values surrounding the site had soared so dramatically, with the attendant revaluations used to calculate property taxes, the sisters really had little choice but to increase the rent; the monthly of USD $450 was incredibly low for any business in the area...

I've always enjoyed reading about the David/Goliath battles of the little guys; I hope the farmer has a long future of tending his land...
