Default Yet another Newbie (Germany, played subsims since Silent Service II)

Hi there,

I've been lurking around here for a long time and finally registered I started my career as a young boy with Silent Service II (yay, the first simulation with 256 color graphics!) running on an Amiga 500 and had lots of fun in the Pacific Ocean.

Many, many years later, I discovered the Gold Edition of Silent Hunter 4, which hooked me up again This time, I sailed through the Indian Ocean, and had lots of fun with the Walter Propulsion System. It was sooo nice to finally outrun them bloody destroyers submerged! Only problem was: if I went to periscope depth from the deep at speeds of 20 knots, she jumped out of the water Guess the rudder control guys were not used to the new boat yet Other than that, I liked Silent Hunter 4 a lot. And before I got bored (and before I could try any of the apparently VERY nice mods), Silent Hunter 5 appeared...

Well, since I'm a software developer myself, I am very forgiving when it comes to bugs and nasty glitches - which is why I'm having fun with Silent Hunter 5 even though I'm eagerly waiting for the next patch

When I first sailed into Kiel at night I was like "ooooh, PRETTY!" as I saw that the windows of some buildings where illuminated. Then, I collided with a freighter in the lock It was kinda stupid but I thought: get out of my way, I'm a friggin' military boat AND I have lot of explosive stuff on board! He didn't gave in and that was the end of me first patrol. I liked it anyway!

But what I really miss in Silent Hunter 5 is "the rest of the world". I don't even have an office in port, medals are not awarded in a nice manner, and I don't receive interesting radio messages about the war while on patrol. Even Silent Service II did this better

Anyway, I have seen that some of you guys are already creating lots of mods, and I'm sure that this will become a great game! Thanks for this great community!
