Default Hello subsim, new member here

My friend recommended me to make a subsim account after we both recently got into Silent Hunter 3. I remember trying SH3 out over a decade ago and thinking it was cool, so when the game was under 2€ on Steam recently, I had to purchase it. I'm also a fan of Das Boot, which had influence over the decision.

I'm still a noob, and don't know what to do in the game. But when I have more time, I'm planning on delving deep into it. I've been trying to install ARB WideGui 1920x1080 mod and GWX3 Gold before even playing at all, but I just can't get any widescreen mods to work. Must be a fault in my old laptop. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi.

Do a bit more reading, but I think it's pretty widely regarded that you don't want the Steam version if you're planning to mod.

Could be wrong, but I do seem to recall some of that talk in other forum posts.

My friend has a better and newer gaming laptop, and he can run all the mods no problem with Steam version. I think in my case, the graphics card just isn't compatible with Wide Screen mods. I did get the Grey Wolf mod working, so at least something works.
