Default Das Boot novel

There are alot of times in the book, when Bucheim is thinking about how would a uboat movie be filmed. Like in one occasion he thinks that the port side of the hull could be taken off so that the camera could get a view of the hydroplanes operators from front.

This was done in the movie right? The port side was able to be taken off? Or was it in U-571?

I cant remember the other ones he though in the book, but IIRC the thoughs were used in the movie. Pretty neat, I´d say.

Thats correct. It was the only shot in the movie where they removed a piece of the hull for a shot. They mentioned it in the director's comontary in the director's cut of the flim.
