Default Promotion? Medals? New boat?

Ok i did about 8 succesfull patrols all with an average of 10 to 20000 tons for almost very patrol with about 80 % realism! I finished all the objectives was low on fuel or out of eels before i returned home. Still i have only had one promotion and not a singe medal! My crew get lots of medals but not me! Also i would like to recieve a new boat but bdu doesnt give me that either i,m in january 1942.

maybe you should increase the numbers.. I consider a successful patrol on a type VII some btweeen 60000 and 80000.

If you're sinking 20,000+ tons per patrol, you should definitely be getting medals. Promotions take a bit longer, even with stellar patrols. As far as a new boat, I'd imagine that depends on the flotilla and year (and whether you transfer between them.) I'm with the 7th and like the above poster, didn't get my first upgrade until late 1942. Since then, every patrol has brought about some new upgrade or another. It's just a really dry spell between 1939 to 1942.

The only other thing I can think of besides possibly sinking neutrals is perhaps some mod that's conflicting with OM.

Depends on realism settings. On low realism I wouldn't expect otherwise. On 80% realism as Oscar has I consider 20k a pretty good tonnage.

That's been my experience as well, though my realism is a tad lower since I really enjoy taking screenshots. It's a small price to pay for having the external camera on. I'm really amazed at what Lurker's done with OM and OMEGU and end up taking a lot of screenshots as a result.

I guess tonnage might go up a bit later on in the war, but from 1939 to early 1942 duds are outright obnoxious. You really get an appreciation for what real U-Boat captains faced and felt when you do some ingenous manuevering, get a perfect setup and watch in horror as 3 out of 4 torpedos hit their mark, and end up being duds.
