Interesting to see that this was already technology in the 1960ies

Regarding using water for methanol transport Letsch is right, also with the total energy bilance for electric cars, which is abysmal (from the rare earths needed for batteries, to their production, to energy transport over electric wires, to charging loss, to battery life.

But there is also another easy way out for using hydrogen, the word is LOHC (– Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier –)

https://www.nordbayern.de/freizeit-e...gen-1.10695678

https://www.wasserstoff-leitprojekte...ekte/transhyde

So you do not even need to compress hydrogen in tanks at 700 bar to make it liquid, no evaporation, no danger of explosion anywhere.
The hydrogen is "locked" in oil, from which it can be extracted anytime, at whatever quantity needed at the moment.

Advantages are obvious, same transport like with fossil fuels, same engines to be used, all infrastructure already in place.

When I red "Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier" and "Nordbayern", I immediately thought "Erdinger Weissbier".
