yes you should get along fine with B17 as the combat side is mainly handled by the AI..because you are flying in a B17 bomber formation..the combat is all about handling the crew manning the gun turrets your self (if you want to..you don't need to the Ai will do the job if left to it) and piloting is best left to the AI also tho there are formation keeping "helpers" available as stock if you fancy piloting the plane your self..
the main enjoyment comes from the atmosphere of the thing...watching th enemy fighters making their attack runs and hoping that they won't pick your plana as a target..!! (gulp...)
it's more of a "survival horror" combat flight sim than a shoot em up dogfight combat ..and it works extremely well..the crew become utterly believable the motion capture has to be seen to be believed...and the voices are advanced and dynamic..
you can switch to a friendly fighter or enemy fighter mid flight if you want a go but i'm like you..too fast for me..makes me dizzy lol

i've got a page full of B17 mods ..you might enjoy the fully randomised campaign i made ...means that you get to see the whole of europe rather than just bombing endless large targets such as oil refinerys...(from a gemplay point of view this is much more fun.given it's still a game not an A level in WW2 history!)

yep you can sit back and just watch the show from start to finish...rooting for your crew as they try to hold the thing together and reach their target and back again...good game

IMO it's the best flightsim i've ever tried...combat or otherwise

it's a real shame you can't make new aircraft for it as with all the enemy aircraft and flak turned off it would make the ultimate air navigation sim around....it would make a great vintage air race sim..where the task was to navigate across europe and arrive at your finish point in the minium of time then back again...you can do this in the stock B17 of course so it can be used as a civilian flight sim... by turning the enemy off...then it's a kind of "memorial flight" europian tour
