Yeah, I'm looking at cases right now. A lot of stuff with promo code discounts, rebates, and on sale.

Was looking at cases with bottom mounts for PSUs but noticed one person talking about heat from the PSU radiating up on the graphics card(s) and that's got me wondering. The bottom mount looks very convenient and sensible but I'm not sure if the heat issue is a valid concern or if the person complaining about it just had other issues that weren't being addressed.

Edit: looking around the internet at this issue (okay, I only checked Tom's Hardware, but still) it looks like bottom-mounted PSUs are preferred, provided the design and orientation of all the relevant hardware/vents/etc. is optimized for it. In other words, make sure the hot air is blowing in the right direction and has a way out of the case that does not funnel it towards other components.

I'm assumeing your a non-smoker and home if fairly dust free.

Pick a case with large fans with removable filters that can be cleaned and reinstalled easily.

I'm looking primarily at CoolerMaster and Thermaltake.

The one you linked to looks nice, unfortunately it's too big for the space I have. Max height would about 17" with some wiggle room, needs to be less than 8" wide (which shouldn't be a problem). I've pretty much resigned myself to a new case that sticks out further on the desk, since 19" deep seems to be about the norm for the nicer ones, particularly the CoolerMasters I've looked at. The Thermaltakes seem to come a tad bit smaller for what I want, but don't seem to get reviewed as well.

Yep She was a Monster but, 1\3 the weight of a Mid tower steel case I once had.

Sounds like a mid tower then. this looks good. Bottom PSU install.

Large filtered fans and more can be installed Reasonable Price.

Yes, I haven't even looked at those yet. I think it was Newegg that had their cases over here. Don't know about anybody else.

That Fractal R3 is actually a little longer than I'd like, but the main drawback is that I'd prefer fewer internal drive bays and an extra external one.

I stopped at Microcenter today just to look at what they had, mostly to get a hands-on take on some of the stuff I was looking at online... picked out a couple that I liked but the one I preferred has multiple reports of fan failure and unfortunately the most problematic one is reportedly a nightmare to get to and replace (being essentially built in to the top of the case) I think I'll take a pass on it. I'd even noted how difficult access to that top fan looked when I was in the store, and the reviews only confirmed my suspicions.

but I'm still checking reviews. (Since it looks like this is a Newegg housebrand I'm not finding too many reviews when I google. Maybe Amazon.) It appears that there's an air vent below the PSU but I can't really tell if it would be possible to put a fan there, or even if that would be necessary. Edit: according to the video review, there's no vent for a bottom fan, just a vent below the PSU space.

Anyway here's a video review, still waiting for it to load so I can watch it all the way through.

which doesn't have most fans included but that may be a plus since I'd rather just buy good ones than pay extra for pre-installed fans that turn out to be crappy. Can't remember if it had any filters, either. I think the Rosewill does. Edit: according the info at Amazon, the Coolmaster does have top and bottom filters.

Edit again: should be no problem fitting the 5770 into either of these, right? Noted concerns about the "larger" cards and some cases, but I think that was with regard to 11" cards. The 5770 is 8" IIRC.

And am I correct in thinking that the PSU actually draws air in through the top and pushes it out the back? So it would not be blowing warm air up towards the inside of the case if mounted (right side up) on the bottom.

When you mount the PSU at the bottom, there is an air intake in the bottom. So fan will point downwards.

The good thing about horizontal fans, like the original one, is that they not only cool the cpu, but also the surroundings.
If you replace it with that Corsair, you may find your MB being a lot hotter. Had a friend visiting the other day with that combo - he found he needed to run without side on the case to keep things stable. Problem solved by adding a side fan...
