Man caught trying to smuggle two otters and a prairie dog in his trousers

Quote:
A tourist tried to smuggle two otters and a dog out of Thailand by hiding them in his trousers.

The 22-year-old, from Taiwan, was detained at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok on Tuesday as he was due to get on a flight back to Taipei.

Security’s suspicions were aroused by what appeared to be a large bulge protruding below the man’s waistband.

Body scans revealed what turned out to be two Asian small-clawed otters and a prairie dog concealed in his trousers.

Woman with two wombs gives birth twice in two days

Quote:
A woman with a rare double uterus has given birth twice in two days.

Medical phenomenon Kelsey Hatcher, from Alabama in the US, was born with two functional uteri that each have their own cervix.

After falling pregnant in both wombs - described as a one-in-a-million occurence - Mrs Hatcher has now given birth to two daughters after spending 20 hours in labour at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital.

One girl, Roxi, was born on Tuesday evening, while sister Rebel arrived the following morning, some 10 hours later.

"Never in our wildest dreams could we have planned a pregnancy and birth like this; but bringing our two healthy baby girls into this world safely was always the goal, and UAB helped us accomplish that," Mrs Hatcher said in a statement released by the hospital.

Spider lays eggs in man's toe during cruise holiday

Quote:
A cruise ship passenger has told of his horror after discovering a spider had laid eggs inside his toe - including one that hatched.

Colin Blake and his wife were spending the evening in Marseille, in the south of France, after the ship had docked on their 35th wedding anniversary trip - when his toe swelled up and turned purple.

The following day, he visited the on-board doctor who told him a Peruvian wolf spider had bitten him and laid eggs inside his toe.

Wolf spiders, which are not poisonous, are often found in the French port city after arriving on cargo ships.

Mr Blake, who lives in Cramlington, Northumberland, told BBC Radio Scotland: "My wife thought it may be because I had new sandals and they were rubbing on my big toe and that was causing it to be red."

The doctor cut his toe open, causing the spider's eggs to pour out.

After the holiday, Mr Blake went to hospital in the UK where doctors prescribed antibiotics - but four weeks later, he noticed something else unusual in his toe.

On another visit to the doctors, they discovered one of the eggs had hatched into a small spider, which was stuck underneath his skin.

He said: "They believe the spider was making its way out - eating its way out of my toe."

Mr Blake chose not to keep the dead spider when asked by medics.

Powerful solar flare knocks out radio, could be headed for Earth: ‘One of the largest ever recorded’

By Social Links for Ben Cost

Published Dec. 15, 2023, 9:57 a.m. ET

"Brace for impact: The sun just emitted the strongest solar flare in six years, which knocked out radio frequencies and could hit Earth in several days’ time, scientists warned."

“This is likely one of the largest solar radio events ever recorded,” NOAA wrote Thursday in a report regarding the flare, which is caused by localized explosions on the sun’s surface that expel intense bursts of electromagnetic radiation."

The alarming solar event occurred Thursday after an active sunspot named AR 3514 erupted with a large class X.28 solar flare — the most powerful variety that the sun is capable of producing, as seen in ominous photos captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory."

It was the most intense blast our star had generated since September 2017.

If this is the case, we could be in for a geomagnetic storm as soon as December 17.

'Zombie deer': Everything you need to know about disease spreading across the country

by Gabrielle M. Etzel, Healthcare Reporter

December 26, 2023 05:15 PM

Concerns from epidemiologists are growing that chronic wasting disease, colloquially known as zombie disease, may be able to spread from deer to humans,
but public health agencies are remaining optimistic."We’re dealing with a disease that is invariably fatal, incurable, and highly contagious," Cory Anderson,
an epidemiologist at the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, told the Guardian.

Although the WHO has strongly recommended health and safety standards for meat product surveillance since 1997, the Alliance for
Public Wildlife estimated in 2017 that over 7,000 CWD-infected animals will be eaten by humans unknowingly.

A CDC spokesperson told the Washington Examiner that "to date, there have been no reported cases of CWD infection in people."

Animals causing record number of vehicle breakdowns - and rats are prime troublemaker

Quote:
Breakdowns caused by animals somehow making their way inside vehicles have reached record levels - with rats accounting for most of the mischief.

According to the RAC, the firm was called out to 303 incidents of animal damage in the first 11 months of 2023, which is more than the same period during any other year on record.

It's also a massive 55% increase from the 196 incidents reported between January and November in 2018.

The figures do not include incidents when a vehicle has struck an animal.

More than half of the animal damage this year was caused by rats, which are often found gnawing away at fuel hoses, infesting engine bays and breaking headlights.

Foxes were also guilty of chewing at speed sensor wiring, windscreen wiper blades and brake hoses.

RAC patrol Nick Isaac, who works in southwest England, said he discovered a squirrel using a car's air filter to stockpile nuts.

"The car had lost power and had an odd smell. When I lifted the bonnet and revved the engine, the air filter moved like it was being sucked towards the engine," he said.

"It turned out a squirrel had been taking nuts from a bird feeder and storing them in the air box, restricting air flow to the car."

Drivers are warned rodents can be attracted to vehicles with food inside or nearby, or left unused for long periods.

One patrol found 10 mice had made a nest in a Porsche, under a panel at the bottom of the windscreen.

Another was called to retrieve a baby pet python that had been attracted by the warm brakes of its owner's car and placed itself behind a wheel trim.

...you have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you.

Californian passes state bar exam at age 17 and is sworn in as an attorney

Updated 6:48 PM EST, December 8, 2023

"VISALIA, Calif. (AP) — A county prosecutor’s office says one of its law clerks passed the State Bar of California exam at age 17.
The Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said this week that, according to research, Peter Park is the youngest person to pass the exam.
The State Bar said Friday in an email to The Associated Press that it could not confirm that Park is the youngest, but it hailed his achievement."

"Park graduated high school in 2021 by taking the state’s high school proficiency exam and focused on law school, graduating this year.
He became a law clerk for the District Attorney’s office in August, turned 18 in late November and was sworn in as an attorney on Tuesday."

Heathen Barstewards. Is nothing sacred?

https://glamadelaide.com.au/hot-cros...aritable-spin/

Not just Adelaide but Australia wide. Hot Cross Buns are available in supermarkets in a multitude of flavours, a couple of days after Christmas !!!!!

They used to be a special treat on Easter Sunday only. Apparently it's all "consumer demand". Next it'll be Easter Eggs for Christmas

Happy New Year to you too.

Mary will be addressed as Queen Mary and Crone Prince Frederik will be called King Frederik 10th.
What title our current Queen will get after her abdication I don't know.

Last time this happened in Denmark was 500 years ago.
