Hi there. UbiSoft - Fkk'd or What?

Hi there, glad to meet you.

Been playing SH5 for about a couple of months now, and the inevitable screw up with UbiSoft finally happened. Their server is apparently down, and because everything with them requires synchronizing with it, now my game won't start.

Is there a mod here that eliminates this problem?

How about a better game - one that doesn't make you sign on to a server everytime you start it?

I used to have SH3, and I heard somewhere that that game doesn't function anymore because the server for it has shut down.

So, how about it? What's the best game out there that doesn't make you go through this B S?

Well I'm playing SH3 alright as there is no need to be on line.

SH3 GWX3.0 Gold is far better for realism than SH5 eye candy.

BTW: Welcome

No idea about SH5 mods.

SH3 does not require you to be online or logged into Ubi's servers to play - as far as I know it never did.

Also AFAIK there has been no official patch released by Ubi for SH5 that undoes the requirement to be connected during gameplay. If so any other workaround to that requirement would be an illegal hack and should not be discussed here (just a friendly heads up).

Welcome aboard cyborg3k.

If SH5 isn't your thing anymore I'd go with SH3 and put a supermod like LSH, NYGM or GWX on it. A lot of people also like SH4; that one puts you in the Pacific to command a US sub.

Speaking of SH4, does anyone know if it would run reasonably well with 1GB of memory? I'd like to give it a try someday.

I'm guessing it would. SH4 uses DDS files instead of targa. They are much smaller then targa files, therego should be using less memory. Campaign wise, it only loads the data it needs to . Where as Sh3 loads the entire thing for the entire war each time you start a game. So loading times are much faster in Sh4.

Ram i suspect won't be the issue so much as CPU or GPU performance.

I'm using 4GB of RAM currently, but now I'm told XP can only use two, so I seem to have wasted my money.

But Ducimus is right - getting a 1GB video card (ATI 4650) made all the difference between running SH4 with everything turned off and running it with everything turned on.

Funny thing is it didn't help SH3 very much, probably for the reasons mentioned.

Not really,

if you have Windows XP 32bit it would be using like 3.25Gb ram of the 4 you have. However Windows XP 32bit can support the full 4GB if you enable the PAE switch.

read more about that here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...AE/PAEdrv.mspx

Windows XP 64Bit supports up to 128Gb
