Default How do you change nationality of a Sub/Ship?

I found a playable ship I fancied trying but it is a German, I would like to change it to British or American if possible.

This also applies to any other vessels as well by the way, so can anybody show me what files to alter and how please?

Col.

I read on another thread somewhere IF for example you sink a friendly you automatically become the enemy and that lasts for 24 hours.

So just as an experiment I started a mission and the first friendly I saw I sank it.
Then I carried on but the next friendly was still a friendly and the enemy was still the enemy, so does that only work in certain situations?

the thread you read was not SH4. sinking a friendly in SH4 might get you scolded or even fired if you do it too often but you would not be considered enemy at any time.

you need to enter the ship in the Roster for whatever nation you want it.
there are plenty of examples. look for a freighter or tanker that is used by both Allies and Axis and there is your model.

Thanks guys, yes Marco, I did try that on a couple of vessels but for some reason it only read one nationality, I couldn't change it.
I must be doing something wrong somewhere.

Changing the side for which you play, the nationality, is simply done in the mission files *.mis for single missions. Same goes for campaign mission files, but I would not change these without knowing exactly what you do.
And of course make backups before changing anything.

Thanks XS,

I liked a few Axis vessels and thought I might like to try them as Allied.

Yes I always make a backup, leaned that in Flight Sim lol.

Ah, but for that you don't need to change nationality, you just need to change the ship type, again in the mission file; if you want to play the Yamato for the American side you can do so, change the player ship to Yamato. In the campaign you would need to edit the Flotilla.upc and StartCareer.upc correctly, but these modded files are often provided with the ship mod.
Currently I'm working on a British CA Kent ship with 28 torpedos (FWD+AFT), it will crush whatever nationality...
