ultrabook test

I'm testing out my new win8 ultrabook I got from work as a bonus.

I don't know what to think about win8, but I'll give it a whirl.

The ultrabook itself is an i7.

I tried out a Windows 8 Desktop at Best Buy a while back...

I like the touch screen feature...(Imagine SH4 with a touch screen!!! That would be awesome...) but I don't like that menu of squares...

I'll be just fine with Windows 7 Home Premium.

May I ask what model did you get? I personally just picked up a Sony Viao Duo two days ago.

PS: Microsoft was too goddamned stupid to actually create a proper tutorial! You got to give it to apple, they tutorials teach you how to use all the new features, and help you get used to it. try these two, it would help you a LOT, and make your experience a lot better.

takes a few minutes, but trust me, helps you a lot in the long run.

a few of the most important ones for me:

On the lock screen, press and key on the keyboard to log in. no need to drag

at any time, on the start menu, start typing for the program you are looking for

on the start screen, you can "push" it. with your touchpad, slide it to the right, so that the cursor is at the right end of the screen, and keep going. You can also scroll with your mouse scroll wheel

Learn your touchpad gestures. They are pretty useful (assuming your laptop has a decent trackpad.)


PPS: if you have a touchscreen laptop, you HAVE TO play civilization 5 on a touch screen!

I was hoping you'd reply, cuz I know you're into tech stuff.
I don't have the laptop with me(I'm at work now), but it is a lenovo yoga(who thinks of the names for these)
All I remember, it is an i7 chip.

It's fun to listen to my co-workers b%tch about windows8.
I'll post more later, but my initial impression is that they want to make it like a big smartphone.
There is ALOT of fluff installed on it, that I'll never/ won't use.

They say it's adjustable. If it isn't I've seen downloads that restore the standard interface.

Hey, there is a Lenovo yoga, Asus has an Asus Taichi, I'm pretty sure hp is coming out with the HP Pilates lol.

Lenovo installs a LOT of junk on the Yoga. Please save yourself the pain, and look at this article: http://www.zdnet.com/how-pc-makers-d...ce-7000007546/

install the hotfix if it isn't preinstalled, Lenovo really messed up with the junk and bloat on the yoga.


As for Windows 8, I like it, but that's is just my personal opinion. It is a very controversial operating system, in my opinion, its good once somebody explains all the tricks to you.

In fact, I never really "got it" at first when I first played with the beta. But, as an MSDN (Microsoft developer network) subscriber, I was invited to view a webcast, and it was at the webcast, where members of the Windows development team explained their design choices and all the new features that were introduced. For me, the moment that "clicked" was when they told me about one of the new storage features. I was thinking "ALL MY PORN SPREAD ACROSS MULTIPLE DRIVES AND LOCATONS CAN NOW BE CENTRALLY MANAGED FROM ONE LOCATION!!!!11ONE!"

They really need a tutorial for this crap, and so, I suggest you take a quick look at the links, and feel free to post your questions here.

Yea. You can mess with the settings and get back to the usual Windows desktop.

That ZDnet article is really good. I shared it with my co-workers.
Basically, atm my new laptop is a really expensive paperweight on my desk. I've really only turned it on 2 times. I'm having trouble sharing files between my two laptops. But, at his point, I won't learn win8 if I don't turn my laptop on.
My original plan was to nuke win8 and install win 7 on it.

problems sharing files? What is the issue with it? Your network shares aren't playing nice with each other?

I personally use SkyDrive to sync stuff between my different computers. It works pretty well, and as a Microsoft first party service, the apps on both windows 7 and 8 are pretty good
