Good new submarine thriller
Watched a very good submarine movie yesterday that was broadcasted on TV on Monday. Its a French movie from 2018 or 2019 and it won the Cesar 2020 for the sound suite (and was nominated for best first work as well, plus I think best film or best screenplay, something like that). "Le chant du loup", English title is "The Wolf's Call", German "Entscheidung in der Tiefe" . It can easily keep up with according high tech thrillers from Hollywood and in parts I liked it even better. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 85% positive reviews, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon Prime at 4.4 stars with 185 reviews. I found it very exciting, the settings convincing and very high tech. I liked the main actors. Oh, the sound, it really is an actor in its own in this movie. Watch it with headphones. It has a grim story, thogh some of its turns a bit Hollywoodish. Still, better than many other such films Hollywood brings out. .
I think it never made it to the cinemas, only DVD/Bluray, at least in Germany.

And this, WARNING: SPOILERS.
Technical review of the details shown in the film. He is correct, it is not ultrarealistic, it is not a documentary, but it is exciting and thrilling and good entertainment. I still recommend it (like he does at the end, too). I liked the realistically appearing sets on board the submarines, and the command centres, look much more convincing than the command centre of Red October, which we all know - but the set for the command centre in that old movie always looked toy-like to me, like shiny decoration on a theatre stage. Such things they do much better in this French movie. Its about immersion.

Yes, it was in French cinemas, but I think not in cinemas outside France.

It was a great work of fiction and there is some truth in it in terms of some of the operation of a submarine
Subbrief did a technical review on it

Just saw the original film, not bad indeed!
There should be a second part, with revenge on the Timour III.
