Thank you all for the input. I think I'll start a new campaign with map contacts on and external camera. That seems to be the best start to figuring out what is going on. Related to the same topic, I'm not 100% confident that my own ship information is correct. I've found that there are small discrepancies between what my UI tells me my course is vs what the course bug tells me within the ship proper. Indeed, the course bug in the hydrophone room tends to be 0.2 - 0.3 degrees off from what the course bug in the control room reads. I understand that there will be some margin for error. It can't be that big of an issue since people play this game successfully with real nav etc. I just need to get gud.

Anyways, thank you all once again. I'll hit this thread back up with any additional questions.

I think your course being off isn't a bug, but rather a realistic feature. Water is never still and waves and the current will continually rock your boat, causing it to veer off course ever so slightly, so your navigator will (automatically) steer the rudder, but there's always the little delay.

Think of it as cycling with heavy sidewinds; you continually have to steer against the wind to maintain course, but it'll never be exact.

Other than that, good luck hunting! I'm sure that with good observations, you'll learn to sink those Tommies left and right!
