Symptoms of the seasonal flu offspring of the Spanish flu

After entering someone's body—usually via the eyes, nose or mouth—the influenza virus begins hijacking human cells in the nose and throat to make copies of itself. The overwhelming viral hoard triggers a strong response from the immune system, which sends battalions of white blood cells, antibodies and inflammatory molecules to eliminate the threat. T cells attack and destroy tissue harboring the virus, particularly in the respiratory tract and lungs where the virus tends to take hold. In most healthy adults this process works, and they recover within days or weeks. But sometimes the immune system's reaction is too strong, destroying so much tissue in the lungs that they can no longer deliver enough oxygen to the blood, resulting in hypoxia and death.
In other cases it is not the flu virus itself that triggers an overwhelming and potentially fatal immune response but rather a secondary infection that takes advantage of a taxed immune system. Typically, bacteria—often a species of Streptococcus or Staphylococcus—infect the lungs. A bacterial infection in the respiratory tract can potentially spread to other parts of the body and the blood, even leading to septic shock: a life-threatening, body-wide, aggressive inflammatory response that damages multiple organs. Based on autopsy studies, Kathleen Sullivan, chief of the Division of Allergy and Immunology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, estimates about one third of people who die from flu-related causes expire because the virus overwhelms the immune system; another third die from the immune response to secondary bacterial infections, usually in the lungs; and the remaining third perish due to the failure of one or more other organs.
Apart from a bacterial pneumonia, the secondary complications of the flu are numerous and range from the relatively mild, such as sinus and ear infections, to the much more severe, such as inflammation of the heart (myocarditis), brain (encephalitis) or muscles (myositis and rhabdomyolysis). They can also include Reye’s syndrome, a mysterious brain illness that usually begins after a viral infection, and Guillain–Barr syndrome, another virus-triggered ailment in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system. Sometimes Guillain–Barr leads to a period of partial or near-total paralysis, which in turn requires mechanical ventilation to keep a sufferer breathing. These complications are less common, but can be fatal.

Sound familiar doesn’t it, unfortunetly it doesn’t make the headlines so we don’t hear about it.

There are things you can do to better humanity. Why don’t you feed the hungry, cloth the naked or shelter the homeless. Those are things you can control instead spending days in endless complaint over what you think everyone else should be doing.

Booster jabs will be offered to all over 18s in the UK in response to the new Omicron variant - 11 cases have been detected.

The gap between second doses and boosters is also being reduced from six to three months.

Severely immunocompromised people will be offered a fourth dose and children aged 12 to 15 will be invited for a second dose.

The Scottish and Welsh governments call for tougher travel restrictions but Downing Street rejects this.

In the US, Covid adviser Anthony Fauci says it's "not the time to panic" but that spread is inevitable.

US President Joe Biden tells Americans: "Don't wait, go get your booster" and urges mask-wearing indoors.

Biden says he does not anticipate any further US travel restrictions or lockdowns at this time.

And the UN chief, Antonio Guterres, says he is deeply concerned about the isolation of southern Africa over Omicron.

The number of infected have exploded here in Denmark. Now there's around 4-4500 infected each day a month ago there were less than 1000 infected per day.
Today 157493 was tested
Infected 4326
Percentage 2,75%

Even on our island where we are Ca 6000 habitants the number gone skyrocket from 0-1 per week up to 26 infected(last week)

A hope that the vaccines we have now would protect fully against this new corona variation is doubtful.

As said before-Most likely the vaccine need to be updated.

Moderna says that vaccines need to be adapted to this new variant, Omicron. BioNTech says they need around 6 weeks to do this, with mRNMA vaccines this seems to be much easier than with traditional ones. The new vaccine could be rolled out during the firts half of January. Good! Lets get it done.

That's good but I'm now beginning to wonder if my third Pfizer jab yesterday was really necessary

Face coverings are mandatory again on public transport and shops in England as part of measures to tackle the Omicron variant.

People arriving in the UK will have to take a PCR test and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

UK health security chief Dr Jenny Harries tells public not to socialise at Christmas with people you "don't particularly need to"

But Boris Johnson later clarifies: "We are not changing the guidance on how you should be living your life"

Omicron was in Europe earlier than first believed, it emerges, with cases found in samples taken in the Netherlands.

The variant was present in samples taken between 19 and 23 November - before it was identified in South Africa.

All adults in the UK are now being offered boosters and the NHS says people will be called in priority order.

re Omicron "[...] the doctors hope more people who are vaccinated will help prevent against any fatal cases. "I still don't think you'll see severe disease in vaccinated people because it's not going to be a naïve immune response," said Dr. Durrani."

The latest 'omicron' variant seems to mutate 50 times more often than the former delta variant, however patients are said to just become tired, without losing smell or taste, and no real serious symptoms as far as i read. So the initial 'omicron' symptomatic impact is relatively mild, and a booster shot will improve the body's response also against the spin-off variant.

^Yes, but two things: also severe pain in the whole body happens often, and then these assessments base on observations with the Southafrican population, which is two decades younger than the German one. It remains to be seen how older people can get along with this variant.

I..I..I...am confused.

When you develop a vaccine against some kind of virus. You so to say create a key that fits in the lock on the virus.
When the virus mutate the key does not fit 100 % in the locker anymore.

So how can todays vaccine be as effective as they say it will be on this new Corona variant.

Can someone help me out here.
