Default Status Report?

I don't have SHIV installed as the Pacific doesn't interest me and I only
recently got a PC capable of playing SH IV.

I am wondering what the status of SHIV Atlantic mods is. Reading the
individual posts does not give a clear overall picture.

What is currently missing for a complete Atlantic conversion? What might I
miss from SHIII if I switch now?

These kind of posts usually annoy me a little, so many thanks for your
patience and help.

The Surface warfare mod is WIP and a beta is due by august or so

Operation monsun is probably the best atlantic campaign you can find, you wouldnt be missing a whole lot from SH3 with the mod. put it on top of RFb 1.52 and let 'er rip!

the oher atlantic mod i think the download is still disalbed because of copying issues.

My suggestion though, use MultiSH4 and make two different SHIV's
one for your U boat stuff and one for your fleet boat stuff, if you start to take preference to them, that is
because all of the language files are still in english, no matter what side youre on, so download SPAX's U boat speechfix.

do not expect it to be anything like sh3 gwx

the german side of sh4 is ok but thats about it

sh4 is a great pacific mod but it has a long long way to go to compare to sh3 gwx

the eye candy is great but you will notice a lot is missing that you were used to in sh3, most notable is no snorkel and a snorkel modded to work still wont replenish co2 levels (a hard coded thing)

dont get me wrong, sh4 is pretty good but dont compare it to sh3 with gwx or you will be dissappointed. as long as you go into it without expecting much, you will find a lot to like about it.

I'm currently playing U-boat Missions with OpsMonsun, and having a good time. While, as mentioned, a lot of the things from GWX are missed, I still find that this setup is a very good one. I'm running three simultaneous careers - Type II and Type VII out of Kiel, and Type IX out of Wilhelmshaven.

Things to love: The far superior crew management, 'Battle Stations', the big screen-filling periscopes, the radio, the amazing loading times, and a lot more I'm sure I'll think of an hour from now.

The downside: Yes, there are things that could be improved, but your question was concerning a good Atlantic campaign, and I think that so far OpsMonsun holds the title for best in that category.

From the sounds of it SHIV Atlantic modding is going very well, but it seams
I will still get the more complete Atlantic experience from SHIII.

I'll wait a year or two more and then come back with the same question.

Thanks chaps.

Letum,

Go ahead and wait for GWX to come out, but you will be missing a lot if you don't give Operation Monsun a chance. Lurker has made a VERY GOOD mod for the Atlantic side of SHIV. He is probably one of the BEST Campaign modders there is right now.

How detailed are the Atlantic Campaigns?
Are there as many ships, convoys, historical events as I will find in the SHIII mega-mods?

in OM the amount of ships is pretty much historical. There are certainly not too many ships, I've had a few patrols in which I didn't see any ship. But if you're on the right place at the right time you can come across multiple convoys and taskforces.
About historical events; there aren't many left that lurker_hlb3 hasn't added to OM yet.

OM is a really good Atlantic mod. I am sure GWX4 will be far more comprehensive with the team and resources available, but anyone whe prefers being a Kaleun to a Skipper will have alot to be happy with in OM. IIRC the realistic convoy traffic etc. is one of the main things Lurker tries to get right.

I want to give you an honest apprasial so the two things that "bother" me with OM are the ship sinking mechanics (debateable, everyone seems to have a different idea of how they should be) and the lack of proper neutrals (single US ships come up as enemy in '39 for example, although I have had neutral convoy reports.. which makes me ). I do not however intend these as a slight on Lurker's work. He has put together a fine mod, amazing actually when you consider how much he has done alone. It has given me hours upon hours of enjoyment.

I have purchased SHIV downloaded OM.
I'm still as skeptical as can be, but on everyone's advice I will stick my toes in the new waters....
