Default Screen goes black

Occasionally when playing SHV the screen goes black. I can still see yellow highlights around people/hatches when I put my mouse over them, but since the screen is black it's hard to find them. I still have the HUD. External view is the same. Can anyone help me?

overheating video card or maybe its just going bad on you would be my first guess

check for dust built up and that all cooling fans are working

I had this too, a wee while back. I think I cooked the card, so I replaced it (was a GTS 8800) with a GTX9800. It's running ok now.

I ran SH4 when this problem started showing up on sH5, to see if this problem was common; saw some funny rendering in SH4 and thought that it was the card. Perhaps your card is duff now.

Which you really shouldn't do with any SH in the first place.

I had also this problem with my nvidia gtx260 card.

I have put new cooling past on it and installed the last driver.
Also lowers your graphics settings. For example untick shadows.

I have a 7600 GS graphics card. I recently opened the case to put in new memory, so I might have stirred up some dust that landed on the card. Thanks guys, I'll crack open the case again, clean the fan and stuff up, and tell you the results.

it happens to everybody I think (same problem)

I guess you don't do it lol that's really the only way to fix it. Silent hunter games dont like going to desktop. Sometimes you can't vent Co2...other times your crew stays on deck...etc....

what other mods do you have? that's a weird issue... If you have another UI mod installed get rid of it before installing Dark wraith's UI mod

Just an update. I cleaned off the fan. The problem still happens. Is it my comp or is it SH5?

When the problem occurs, does it go away after a short time, or after moving around?

It reminds of a problem with NVidia cards in Oblivion...
