Changed harbors for SH-4

Hi, Mates!

I have one question...

Everyone knows about the terrain update mods for SH-3 and SH-5. But whether there are mods for SH-4 UBM? I mean mods that change German harbors (Wilhelmshaven, Rostock, Kaiser Wilhelm Kanal with sluices, and so on), such as mods by thfeu58

Best regards,

I've been asking that question for several years now. The fact is that the people who created them like SH3 and see no need to change. The people who have the skills to convert them for SH4 also don't seem interested. A GWX team member was working on some cool harbor updates when GWX4 got cancelled.

As for SH5, it's so different that I'm not sure anything there could be truly imported into SH3.

So we wait, and we hope, and we dream.

Long time ago, I made some terrain changes for the interesting harbours for Germany, but I had only the existing SH4 harbours to install, and not having the skills to work on the harbour constructions themselves, I scrapped the work.
I may have the terrain change files somewhere though, but where....

You can see what I tried to do with Wilhelmshaven here:

Hi, Carotio

Wilhelmshaven's harbor looks good It is a pity that this mod does not develop...

As I remember, tools for editing of terrain for SH4 and SH3 is now lost?

Not lost, but expensive. You need software like Adobe Photoshop to rework the terrain. To extract the needed files to rework, you need a tool, developped by ref AFAIR. I can't remember the name of that tool though. But search for any posts made by ref, and you may find it.

I still don't understand why SH4 isn't popular for modders
This game has potential to be better platform as U-boot sim than SH3 - better graphic as stock game than modded SH3, crew watches system, good repair system, full pack of U-boot types etc. Using OM+OMEGU this is a quite good piece of work, much better than bugged SH5. Is it more hardcoded than SH3 and SH5, is it more difficult to create mods for it? I like SH3 with GWX very much, like first love, but SH4 with all mods created for SH3 would be kick-ass game.

Also something I've said many times. I think I was more devastated than anyone when GWX4 withered on the vine, since I had seen some the things being worked on at the time. I keep trying to learn how to move some of the existing mods into SH4, and I keep failing to figure it out.

I was crying after GWX4 too
It's a pity that this project was cancelled and nothing was published for subsim community. But I can't understand why there is so many mods for bugged SH5 and so few for SH4. IMHO there is no chance to make a good subsim from SH5, even using all today available mods. Wouldn't be better to do it for SH4?
