True...
GWX won't run on Vanilla SH3.....
CapZap
The Readme on the disc I got tells me its v1.4.

I'm assuming a corrupt GWX file download, so currently downloading them again....

Any suggestions?
This does not mean that GWX-5.bin is corrupted, it's just a response from the pre-checks that the installer makes.

Unfortunatley, I don't know what it means.

Is your copy of SH3 1.4b COMPLETLEY unmodded & clean of all other content?

Yep - fresh out of the box.

However, the ReadMe says its v1.4 not 1.4b.

That said the list of updates exactly matches that of the v1.4b patch I downloaded.

This is frustrating..... I want to sink something!

I can understand your frustration but we will work through this.

I've found the following:

Quote:
Test 5 is a validation check of your selected install. If it is the only failed test, then it means that you have an installation of SH3 v1.4b which has been modified in such as way that may create problems or conflicts were GWX installed over the top of it.
I know this is a PITA but first, check that it reads 1.4b in the bottom corner of the Main SH3 Menu, if it does then your current install has changed somehow. Possible leftover files from a previous install. (SH3 Quirk I'm affraid).

Follow these instructions:

1. Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2. Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3. Reinstall SH3
4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6. Download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

Obviously, you have downloaded GWX and you may or may not be using SH3 Cmdr.

Pay close attention to the removal/deletion of certain folders.

Good luck & come back if this still does not work, Hell, come back anyway, there's a war on don't you know!

Okay - tried again and got the same message.

Part way through instalation of GWX I get an error message:

"C:\program files\ubisoft\silent hunterIII\data\objects\turm7c_1_hd.dat

an error occurred while trying to copy a file: the source file is corrupted"

I get the option to abort, retry or ignore.

Went for abort before - the installation rolled back, then the game would not play, and the GWX upgrade would not even run.

Retry did nothing.

Just went for Ignore.

Lets see what happens......

It is vitally important that you delete the SH3\MyDocs folder.

Well - 'Ignore' led to 2 further messages essentially the same as the first; just slightly different file names.

Will try again tomorow.

Suhari, your original error simply meant that while you had a valid installation of SH3 v1.4b, it had been sufficiently modified to "trip" the installer.

From the other information you have provided, the reason is quite simple.

You have at least one corrupted GWX installation file. When you first attempted to install GWX, it would have started installing and then failed at the "corrupt" point (turm7c_1_hd.dat it seems). Some files would have been installed into your, up to that point, clean SH3 installation. Thus when you re-ran the installer, your selected installation was no longer "clean"; it had been modified by the files installed by the installer up to the point of corruption. Hence the error message.

The solution? Firstly, follow danlisa's steps to get a new clean installation. THEN, d/l and install your MD5 sum comparison software of choice (I recommend mine, at my website). Then d/l GWX.md5 (NOT from the danlisa link - try jimbuna's FileFront link) and use it to determine which of your installation files are corrupt. Re d/l the corrupt files (as an aside it seems a lot of people are getting corrupt files from the isaf site - dunno if this is where you got your copy from :hmm and verify again.

When you have 100% verified copies of the install files, THEN reinstall.

Easy!

Relative MD5 links on the first posts have been altered to prevent similar future problems.

Many thanks.

I'd assumed I had a corrupt download; am currently 85% through d/loading the full GWX from Gameshadow.....

EDIT - Really shoud have checked this thread before starting the Gameshadow d/l. MD5 tells me File 3 is corrupt.
