More for brushing but it's important to keep things buffed up and gleaming white; especially if there's mud footprints around home; the one man-in-charge responsible for the task is noted for his fastidiousness in the matter just to keep it all cricket.

not a shoe kit but it would certainly remove mud if necessary; and my bad: the 'buffer' or scraper function would be function #3 of this gizmo's three uses( on wood, rubber or mud) by the man-in-charge of home...usually in front of thousands if not millions of rabidly enthusiastic onlookers.

BINGO! for a guy with no chance you are learnin' fast! We'll call that a win: the man-in-charge of the white rubber'home' plate ie: the umpire , not the three other base referees, uses a special whisk with pointed scraper and ring capable of measuring a 2.61 in. wooden bat generally carried in his spare balls hipbag. <in front of thousands if not millions of rabid onlookers ( the World Series) for which my SF Giants are looking very promising this season!! The bat rules are stringent to prevent cheating to increase the players hitting 'power' ie: keeping the game 'cricket!'

3.02 The Bat
(a) The bat shall be a smooth, round stick not more than 2.61
inches in diameter at the thickest part and not more than 42
inches in length. The bat shall be one piece of solid wood.
NOTE: No laminated or experimental bats shall be used in
a professional game (either championship season or exhibition games) until the manufacturer has secured approval
from the Rules Committee of his design and methods of
manufacture.
(b) Cupped Bats. An indentation in the end of the bat up to 1¼
inches in depth is permitted and may be no wider than two
inches and no less than one inch in diameter. The indentation
must be curved with no foreign substance added.
(c) The bat handle, for not more than 18 inches from its end, may be
covered or treated with any material or substance to improve the
grip. Any such material or substance that extends past the 18-
inch limitation shall cause the bat to be removed from the game

Players can be very particular about their bats. Ted Williams cleaned his bats with alcohol every night and periodically took them to the post office to weigh them. "Bats pick up condensation and dirt lying around on the ground," he wrote, "They can gain an ounce or more in a surprisingly short time." Ichiro Suzuki also took great care that his bats did not accumulate moisture and thus gain weight: he stored his bats in humidors, one in the club house and another, a portable one, for the road. Rod Carew fought moisture by storing his bats in a box full of sawdust in the warmest part of his house. "The sawdust acts as a buffer between the bats and the environment," he explained, "absorbing any moisture before it can seep into the wood."
Many players "bone" their bats, meaning that before games, they rub their bats repeatedly with a hard object, believing this closes the pores on the wood and hardens the bat. Animal bones are a popular boning material, but rolling pins, soda bottles and the edge of a porcelain sink have also been used. A brutal business when volunteer-umping little league games in front of nasty oft-inebriated parents shouting horrible things when their minor offspring aren't doing well on the diamond. I grew up in Little League and played high school ball. My dad was a rabid New York Yankees fan; and my best buddy and Spring season rugby teammate in college played
college catcher and then coached bigtime college women's baseball... just retired after 19 years; preceded by trying to work up to the majors in '70's Texas AAA farmteam baseball!!?? I just took in a local Napa Cricket game at the fairgrounds on Saturday-much more polite.
