Tip: When reaching the end of your plotted waypoints, the time compression will automatically drop to x1.

Default F5 gets you to the deck gun?

Question, is F5 supposed to get you to the Deck Gun station? If not how do you get from the bridge to the deck gun/flack gun for that matter.

F5 gets or removed (a toggle) the CREW from the deck gun. You have to get there yourself. However I believe it only works if they "are there" already.

Basically I work the gun like this: When I see something I want to shoot, binocs out, look at it, press SPACE. The gun starts to shoot with people on it. When I'm done shooting things I press F5. This brings up the "Hey, guys are on the gun" icon. I press F5 again and they disappear.

For the flak gun, just click on it and you'll enter it (even if it's the one down a level). I've never been able to get AI on the flak guns yet... For the deck gun some people say you can click on it from the bridge like with the flak, but I can't ever SEE it well enough to do that so I just sigh loudly, and climb down the ladder and stomp across the deck to get on it when I want the joy of making things go boom.

I would assume F5 and F6 are shortcuts for the Deck Officer's abilities. These abilities cost morale so if you are encountering a bug where the morale is lost (or you just don't have any) these keys would appear to do nothing.

When I'm going on a plotted course and I hit a contact, or realize my water's too shallow, I either have to go back to the map and change the way point...or do rudder adjustments, then go back to the map, delete my entire course, and plot it again. Is there any button of "return to course" like in SH4? This is gettin to be a real hassle...

Not without a mod.

If you don't want to mod your game there is a way to return to course.
Go to the nav map and move to your last plotted waypoint.
Click on this waypoint, and add a further new waypoint to the end of it.
Your boat will now return to your plotted course.

That happened to me and I started firing on my own ships

I just clicked one of the "F" buttons to "man the gun" and they stopped.

Hope that makes sense

Good question.... ummm.....???
You cant.

A work around is you secure the gun. and if you can't secure the gun, then ummmm....

Dive.

Yeah, this is why I dont plot to far ahead. That way I never have to go far to do this, and besides I've found in the past with SH it's better not to plot all that far anyway, just usually have to ditch it to go after a contact along the way.

I have so much trouble going down the hatch I now stay in the conning tower on the attack scope. that way I can suface at night and dive in the day with out running all over the place. i keep watch with the attack scope.narrow view though.but i don't get myself caught on the suface. It'l have to do until i get better or a mod comes along.[i do practice in safe waters]

Default Ship Recognition

The recognition plate system is pretty good. However, there are occasions, as there probably were in real life when you are not certain of the exact ship, but are certain of its nationality. I encountered a task force in happy times including two battleships. It was night, poor visibility. I also couldn't get into a good AOB position and ended firing one torp from 15 degree astern at the second battleship, which exploded and registered immediately sunk. Bit lucky. I couldn't identify the ship, which looked like the Queen Elizabeth, but I am certain I sank that in Scapa Flow much earlier in the game. In real life news sources and general intel sources would have provided confirmation of a sinking maybe weeks or even months later. Is there any way to check within the game or save-game logs to see what you actually sank?

M-Theory,

" Is there any way to check within the game or save-game logs to see what you actually sank?"

Yes there is, the "Hat Icon" on the right side of the screen brings up the log, just click on the ship sunk entry and it will tell you what you sank and its tonnage. You can sink a ship more than once, I sank the Ark Royal twice last game, once on regulart patrol and once after replenishment.
