I warmly recommend the movie Don't Look Up

I understand why it got 7.4 on IMDb.

I'm not so good to describe a movie.

A great chase scene from "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".

There was talk of a sequel.....

I love that movie!

On the weekend, I finally watched Dune on the big moviescreen at Imax Cinema in Darling Harbour, Sydney - via VR, since the cinema has been demolished already 6 years ago.

Two tings.

First, my new headset, a G2 Reverb, worked wonders: no visible pixels anymore, no screendoor effect. Really impressively good picture and render quality, I was blown away. This solution can replace a visit in the movies, really. The screen in this setup is really big.

Second, the movie, on such a huge screen, is visually very impressive. But it is a movie that definitely needs the big and superbig screen, else it probably must dissapoint a bit, since the acting leaves a bit to be desired. The movie is more a visual and atmospheric experience, which in case of this movie is more or less one and thew same, not so much a narration experience.

The movie btw has safely passed the financial threshhold criterion, so it is confirmed that the second part of the book also will be turned into a movie, to be released in October 2023, actually Villeneuve is already working on it since several months, it just was not clear if the financial profit would be such that Warner gives the final green light. Well, it has given the Go now. Villeneuve even mentioned a solid chance for a third part, telling the second novel's story, "Dune Messiah", which fans often see as the third part of the main novel anyway. It indeed would make sense.

Covid hampered the cash profit, however, and I absolutely doubt that Warner will ever consider again a simultaneous start of a major blockbuster in cinemas and on its streaming platform, it showed to be a lousy idea. Profit margins would have been much bigger without that Streaming nonsense decision. For cewrtaion legal and contract reasons regadrign their advertsing for abonements, they must fulfill some obligations with releases just around the corner, but after these have been done, they will retire this model, I am certain.

I liked Blade Runner 2 much better, had it getting under my skin, Dune did not manage that. But it is a solid and visually impressive work that faithfully sticks to the novel. Just why Liet Kynes, a white male in the book, must be turned without need or gain into a black woman, is beyond me. We can guess: PC, appeasement of the woke movement and compliance with quota demands of the gender and anti racism league etc etc. Beside this fumble: recommended.

Good on you Sky. If I knew you were in town I would've bought you a beer
real not VR but VB ( aussie joke ).

I saw "Dune" again last night at a local cinema ( $18 for popcorn !!!!! , some people actually paid ) and brought earplugs - they made a difference

Diversity and know your audience....I think the director may have been pressured a little bit.

"Sky Captain...." love the movie too, the sepia tone, retro futurism, Bai Lin,

Me too these days only go to the cinemas with earplugs. Else the insane volume sends my skull at all directions simultaneously.

Not sure you understood me correctly. The cinema does not exist anymore, I did not go there and watched a VR movie there, but I visited the cinema via VR, in a model of the former main showroom.

The IMAX cinema, I read at least, was demolished in 2016.

I prefer this setting in VR, since it offers the biggest, moviescreen I know in VR. I have some smaller movie halls for VR as well, however, for smaller, less blockbusteresque films. WEatchign them in VR this way really is a good idea. No oversized TV and no projector can compete with the display size!

Sky Captain, I know what you mean. What you listed, plus the visual comic style of 50s pulp magazine SciFi, and then this name (in the German dub at least): Polly Perkins!

Its just a movie that makes you feel like a little boy again, breathing the air of some Ray Bradbury stories, maybe.

Yeah, it's a song...but the clip's more about the movie "A Funny thing happened on the way to the Forum".

The sets were a bit squalid, but what a fun ride of a movie.

Quote from the movie :- "Don't fan the girls when they're wet, you never understand, you'll be a eunuch all your life".
