Default HELP! SH II screen blanker!

Hi im new to the forum and i am playing silent hunter 2. Somtimes when im enjoying a patrol the screen goes black, the "screen blanker" appears and i have to restart the game, losing any unsaved progress. As you can imagine this is very frustrating! What is the "screen blanker" and why does it appear? any help appreciated.

Thanks

Default good question

if I was too guess it acts like a fail safe program running in the back ground and I think a file error kicks it off I ran into this problem alot , while putting 1 too many mods in. You can sometimes get around this when screen blanker comes on hit ctlr alt delete, then left click silent hunter 2 on the menu bar and see if the game restarts it should restart where you left off, or you will have too uninstall the game and reinstall too correct the problem. Almost forgot sometimes you got system programs running in the back ground and your computer would rather run those than the game, they do have a program called _end it all_ here at subsim that will shut off back ground applications for better game play.

WELCOME ABOARD!

What yubba said is pretty much spot-on. They had the thing running in the background for reasons of their own, and when something causes a CTD you get a CTSB (Crash To Screen Blanker) instead.

It's just a CTD with an extra layer in the way. One of the many annoyances that came with SHII.

Default Crash to screen blanker

Try running SH2 at lower res and/or color depth. Also I found that sometimes that if the crash was due to Direct Draw running out of memory then even a uninstall-reinstall woukd not completely fix the problem. Once it has crashed once due to Direct Draw error then it becomes more vulnerable to the same crash again. Amazingly, in order to be able to again run SH2 at a high res/color depth reliably I had to format and start from scratch. I'm guessing that some file not involved in the SH2 install gets corrupted?
