quote from the link:

“I had to log in [to software] at the start and finish of my shift and declare any breaks, including going to the toilet,” former employee at an online retailer, Sara McIntosh says.

“They would count how many investigations I had done in a day on their system, then divide them by the working hours minus breaks to check I had reached my daily target.”

Most UK workers (56%) believe they are currently spied on at work, according to a report by the Trades Union Congress (TUC)."

With the new identity cards you won't even need to log in manually and explain anything. Or with a new smart phone and this certain app your master demands to install. Win-win

Is it really new? Supervision is remote now but back in the day it was in person.

Here are a couple work site pictures from a hundred years ago. One is a central telephone exchange and the other Information.

Yes kids before speed dial and caller ID if you needed to call someone but didn't know their number you could call a real person who would look up and dial any listed number for you. And BTW nobody is dressing for the cameras in those pics. Back then worksite dress codes, even for jobs like these that do not deal with the public in person were quite strict.

But I digress...

Note the supervisor standing behind the operators. They stayed right there all day walking up and down the line, constantly listening to every word the operators said and jacking in when they wanted to hear the caller too. These supervisors timed every bathroom and coffee break they took note of every second that an operator was not doing their job, not with electronic gizmos, but with pen and notebook which is just as effective and intrusive when you think about it.

Wait, I though labor meant working with tools in the hot sun, not in a climate controlled office.
