The 2008 subsim meet started planning in January 2008

I was busy minding my 401k all year ,but it sure sounds like everyone had good time. I can't fly to europe, but I could save at least $50 a month for the 2010 meet.

Someone start a poll ... these things take long range planning,uh?

I'm in Ohio.
I do long distance drives when work demands.
Texas was 20 + hours!!
Chicago and Baltimore are not even one day trips.

I'd be happy to meet up!!
Ask MM about the River Class near upper New York some where!!

That sound like a nice thing to visit.

Do you mean the Tribal class HMCS Haida in Hamilton here in Canada? That's less than a half-hour drive from me (and about a 50-minute drive from Buffalo, not counting the border crossing). I'm thinking I'll visit that pretty soon.
Buffalo itself has a pretty good collection - Gato-class USS Croaker, as well as a Fletcher and a Cleveland class CL.

Personally, of course, I'd rather have an excuse to travel a little further afield and see the subs I wouldn't normally be able to just drop by and visit

Just a quick note to say I got home safe and sound this morning. Flight from San Francisco was uneventful and I even managed to get some sleep so I'm not feeling too bad.

I'll post some more once I've gotten re-acquatined with the wife and kids and have had time to sort out the photo's from San Fran.

I was talking to Neal about an Aussie meet in 2010. Need to check out some venues for activities but we should be able to sort something out. I know it's a long way to come but with two years notice and if you plan to spend some time around the meet checking out some of the other down under delights, I'm sure we might be able to tempt a few of you out of the colder northern climes to pay us a visit.

I thought for sure it was a River Mush told me about.
:hmm:
It was when We did the first River Class at his request.
We had talked about doing a weekend trip just to tour it.

Regardless.
Any kind of group meet is something that should be done.

I have to say,
Meeting everyone I met?

Just makes me want to do more.
It may sound strange, but once you meet with all the
internet folks?

Things change.
In a good way.

I'd not trade the past week for a Million Bucks!!

Nope, no surviving River-class boats that I know of. There's only a Tribal and a Flower in Canada (the latter being on the East Coast), and I'd be certainly surprised if the Americans kept any. I don't think either of the Rivers that served with the USN survived.

And yep, the 'internet people' from this sort of a circle are almost always a lot more fun to meet in person than one might expect!

Say, Boston with a day visit to Groton would be pretty darn fantastic...
We could always do a small local met.
:hmm:

Say a group of people want to meet in Chicago and visit the U-Boat there?
I'm going to be there!!

Mini-SubSim meets!!
:rotfl:

:hmm:
But we need a Mini-Neal.
I'd love to go to Chicago. In fact I'll be there in the spring anyway, got some friends there and the U-505 will be in order for me either way.

And yes, Boston I thought would be great - we have Massachusetts and Lionfish, and Nautilus of course; Albacore is I believe within reach too. I wonder if K-77 is ever going to recover from the sinking, she's rather close as well...

An interim spring meet would be great. I'd be glad to help with organizing, but I'm local to neither Chicago nor Boston (in fact I've never been in the US yet at all... )
If they see your photos in the bio section, they might not give you a visa.:rotfl:

Maybe AVG and I could coordnate to put up a few guys, as I live just outside Washington DC (30-minutes from Baltimore). Anyone up for the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum?

Excellent museum. I have been twice with my kids.

Nice! There are direct routes from my town in Norway to Copenhagen now, so I might swing by too.

Would very much like that, yes! And I have friends in northern Virginia whom I'd love to visit as well, so that'd get me pretty close to them once the meet is done.

I think an interim meet would be great. I'm all for Neal's variation between Europe and the US for the Subsim meets, but two years can be a real long time for people who can't quite make it that far

Greetings Kaluens,

U765 has finally returned to home port, and after 4000 miles of driving she and her crew are ready for some much needed rest and refit.

Possibly later this evening I will post my pics.

It was great meeting everyone finally.... Kudos to Neal for managing the whole thing.
Anyways will be posting soon... Don't worry Sailor Steve I will leave all photos of the Texas with no description and you will have to ID them! (which I have no doubt that you will be able to do quite successfully)
