It's not a landing skid. The helo part is close. Technically it could not be called a helicopter.

And a clue. It was a piece of equipment from a naval vessel.

fighting a connection here...stealing neighbors, hope i ain't triple posting yet.

Well, seems to do with flight, not space, plane or helo....

What's left.....maybe something to do with a balloon....I'll look more, but throw a guess of a launcher for a weather balloon.
