Although I see the supposed benefits of a pause feature, I think it would go against the grain of what Wolfpack is. A HC sim.

I've seen this many times, players in a game asking for crutches, and if gone down that road the value of the game for the HC-oriented folk is decreased.
I admire the devs for bringing bots into the game, but running from station to station before bots was also very rewarding in its own right.

I am not saying that pause itself is such a terrible idea, but that the avenue it is on is a murky one.

I'd love a pause feature, only in solo, but a "true pause", not the SH5 type of pause where you can still do things on the map. The SH5-Pause always felt like cheating, like pausing while trying to identify the target, while trying to measure distance and AOB in the periscope etc. I am actually glad this does NOT exist in Wolfpack because it adds a lot to the tension when you need to do your calculations in time pressue. That's cool, and I personally would love to keep this as is.

However, a true pause button to pause the complete game in solo mode (for going to toilet/smoke/dinner/whatever) would be nice, at least for me. Do not allow any game interaction in this pause mode, maybe just show the menu (or just pause the game while in the menu?), so you cannot do anything in the game. Of course, this does not apply to multiplayer, where you can easily say "away for 5 minutes, please take care of the watch". But for solo, in my opinion it does not hurt the game and offers some convinience to be able to step away from the PC for a while, without feeling like a cheat in SH5. I aborted a few games when the wife called "lunch" and I was already in attack position.

Just my two cents. Controversial topic, admittedly.

No pause but we are exploring a save game feature for the future.

Perhaps vote pause option.

Example one: Single player, one vote pauses it (true pause as mentioned above)

Example two: player 3 anounces on discord that his daughter jumped off dresser in super girl cape and cracked her head open on night stand, request 2minute pause. His friends say sure mate, take two minutes, vote pause 4x, game pauses, head wrapped in gauze+fruit drink, daughter saved by wolfpack.

Example three: same scenario, daughter bleeding, buddies one and two say sure mate, griefer #4 says haha send nudes. Players 1-3 VOTE KICK griefer #4, then vote pause. Daughter saved, griefer gone, wolf pack saves the day again.

I've just logged back into subsim after more than 12 years absent, having just got wind of this new sim in development.

Since I was last here I've had two children. I can't play this game without a pause button.

When it gets one, I'll buy it.

I agree, it does seem a no-brainer that the abilty to pause, or save progress of, the game - when played solo - would seem to make it more popular with those who cannot stop RL for 3 hours....

Another vote here for a "full pause" in SP mode.

No pause in MP isn't such an issue as it is...MP.

There is no single player mode. It is MP with only the host in it.

So if someone controlling one of the other boats has to stop for some reason the entire game should come to a halt until that person returns?

The thing is HC or otherwise many of us aren't sailors and know very little about sub operations. Without a dedicated training ground with tutorials it's only fair to have a pause in single player so we can stop and read the manual. HC Sim is a poor excuse to not have a pause unless u happened to know how to operate a WW2 sub. I sure as hell don't. I was in the Army and operated a Bradley. I wouldn't expect anybody to know how to operate a Bradley in a HC Sim. I spent 2 months in training learning the basics to operate a Bradley in all crew positions. After which we constantly trained and went to advanced schools as rank and experience permitted. I'm pretty sure navigators or fire control officers had even more training and to expect people to be at that level is insane. Not having a pause especially for solo players is a mistake. Just my opinion though. And please don't try maybe this game isn't for u bs. That's a crap response also. Again, we aren't trained on any aspect of sub ops but that doesn't mean the game isn't for us. It's a cool game but I constantly have to stop snd read which causes me to lose my course or other negatives happen. A dedicated training mode and a pause would help immensely. Because I'm finding myself frustrated trying to learn a game that I'm constantly restarting missions simply because of no pause
