Default Kriegstanz problem

Has anyone else experienced this problem with KD? Half the time I use it now, once I've put all the plots and stuff on the map and have it construct the scenario file it goes into an infinite loop. Could it be because I added new units to the DB folder files?

mayday, mayday!

I had this problem a couple of times.

After much thinking (and reading the manual), I think it's because the program is not able to place groups properly when you set minimun or maximum distances between them. Since then I always use the auto feature and didn't have it anymore.

Default I think you're right

You know you're right... I think you're right, KD seemed to start mucking about when I started adding those group things... will try just leaving the darn things blank then. If that doesn't work I'll just use the stock DB files - whats most important are the plots anyway.

Thanks very much,

Well, I wasn't sure it was your case. It was just my experience :hmm: .

Regardng the DB files, mine are heavily expanded with new classes and ships and for the moment only found the error that "such class is not available for whatever country in that time", so:

a) I just add it manually to the Databases or
b) use the manual renaming, so DB is not used.

Apart from that, DB seem to work fine with KD .

Default ruddy genius

that you are! Thanks very much, that solved it (foregoing the min/max group distance) I must have drove the poor program nuts (how will I keep the groups a maximum of 15 km apart when one is in Scapa and the other group is in London!???)

Sigh,

There's something wrong with the generator software if it behaves like that.

From (distant) memory, if it can't fit groups into the max/min distances specified, it keeps trying for a short while and then gives up with a friendly message. It certainly shouldn't loop forever.

Okay, not 'infinite' but once I saw it happening I got a trifle impatient and just stopped it. Maybe errr 5 seconds or 3 repetitions.

Default mutex

By the way, Floater,

Would it be possible to use the Mutex randomizations in KD? I just want to have two different variants - the scenario is you are sailing a ship but neither side knows which side you will join so in variation one your enemy are the Germans while in two your enemy are the Allies.

Thanks,
Mountbatten

Kriegstanz doesn't use MUTEX - it doesn't need to.

For a scenario like that, you could set up two enemy plots (or two sets of plots), one with tag(s) of "German" or something and the other with tags(s) of "Allies" or something. Anything you want in both scenarios, leave the tags blank.

When you generate a mission, the generator will allocate only one of the tags ("German" or "Allies" in the example), and create groups with the tag it generates or blank.

It's explained better in the documentation, but it's simpler than it looks.
