Russia claims to have a vaccine ready. Putin said a first vaccination campaign in high risk populations like teachers, hospital staff and the likes, shall start in early Octobre.
The WHO as always has nothing but hesitation and concerns, warning of that it is none of its own vaccine candidates. But Russia insists they did phase III trials. Putin said he let one if his daughters get vaccinated already. He also said the vaccination provides lasting immunization. The latter remains to be seen. But it would be an embrassment for the WHO and the other research projects, if the Russians do not just claim some propaganda, but are telling the truth. Thats the problem with the WHO. They have done so much nonsense and have claimed so much useless staff and wasted so much time that by now nobody serious believes them anything anymore and they have no authority left that gives their warnings any weight. We will need to wait and see what happens in Russia. If the Russian claims are true, we will see it. If they are wrong, we will see that as well. Both is just a question of time. I form no opinion of it right now, but delay that to a later time.

Auckland is back in lockdown after New Zealand detects its first locally transmitted coronavirus cases in more than 100 days.
Russia says it has registered the world's first vaccine - but has not released any safety or immunity data. The UK records its biggest quarterly drop in employment since 2009, as the pandemic hits the jobs market. Scottish students return to classrooms for the first time since March. There have been more than 20m cases of Covid-19 around the world, and 736,000 deaths. More than 5m of those cases are in the US, with 3m in Brazil and 2m in India.

New figures show 56,842 deaths where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate have been registered in the UK.
In England and Wales, 51,779 deaths involving the virus had occurred up to 31 July, according to the Office for National Statistics figures. A total of 8,946 deaths were registered in England and Wales in the last week of July, according to the ONS - 90 fewer than the five-year average of 9,036. This is the seventh week in a row that deaths have been below the five-year average. Of the deaths registered in the week to 31 July, 193 mentioned Covid-19 on the death certificate - the lowest number of deaths involving Covid-19 since the week ending March 20 (103 deaths). The National Records for Scotland reported 4,208 deaths involving Covid-19 had been registered in Scotland up to 2 August, while 855 deaths had occurred in Northern Ireland up to 31 July according to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.

Greece announced further measures intended to curb a recent spike in infections. Visitors from Spain, Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic will have to show proof they have tested negative for the virus before entering the country. It also announced a night curfew on bars and restaurants in major tourist destinations such as Crete, Santorini and Rhodes. The health minister said infections were "rising dangerously"
Spain, one of the early global hotspots of the pandemic, reported a sharp rise of more than 1,400 infections in 24 hours. It also recorded 73 deaths since Friday - its biggest increase in months. In Germany, a survey by the Bild newspaper found that almost 60% of pubs, restaurants and hotels believe they will struggle to survive because of the pandemic. Elsewhere, Finland said it would introduce mandatory testing and quarantine for travellers from Belgium, the Netherlands and Andorra. "The situation is extremely delicate," a health official said.

A study from Vienna shows that only 60& of recovered patients show immunity. Even worse, Sars-Cov-2 seems to show ADE, "anti-body enhancement", where antibodies dock onto vorusses, but just for clumps, do not destroy them, these virusses than use the docked anti-.bodies as free-entrance tickets into other cells, the immunological reaction of the body helps to spread the virus and supports it. Also, further support was found for the recent observation that mild forms of the disease do not provide strong and longer lasting immunity - the bad news is that tough forms of the disease have a chance to form stronger, longer lasting immunity - but only a chance, certain it is not: the 60% applies to these as well.
I feared that already: the idea that some cynics still hold, that we could form herd immunity by letting large parts of the population suffer from ifneciton and hoping that most will survive somehow and only have mild form, is a theory that imo can no longer be suppoorted at all. It alkways was cyncial speculation, and now at the latest is just irresponsible bodily harm.

Early treatment with hydroxychloroquine: a country-randomized controlled trial *
Covid Analysis, August 5, 2020 (updated August 10, 2020) Many countries either adopted or declined early treatment with HCQ, forming a large country-randomized controlled trial with 2.0 billion people in the treatment group and 663 million in the control group. As of August 10, 2020, an average of 41.4/million in the treatment group have died, and 446.9/million in the control group, relative risk 0.093. After adjustments, treatment and control deaths become 85.8/million and 644.0/million, relative risk 0.13. Confounding factors affect this estimate, including varying degrees of spread between countries. Accounting for predicted changes in spread, we estimate a relative risk of 0.21. The treatment group has a 78.9% lower death rate. We examined diabetes, obesity, hypertension, life expectancy, population density, urbanization, testing level, and intervention level, which do not account for the effect observed. https://hcqtrial.com/
