I see some kind of similarity here with the man that died in Hong Kong had only been in China for a few hours before he took at cruise in Japan. So he comes back tested positive and died in Hong Kong (which now has the nurses on strike) and I wondered if he had passed it on to the ships passengers.

One Filipino crew member, two Australian passengers, three Japanese passengers, one passenger from the U.S. and three passengers from Hong Kong have all tested positive aboard the Diamond Princess, which will remained locked down for at least 14 more days in Japan, Princess Cruises said in a statement Tuesday.

Japanese health officials held the Diamond Princess ship at the Yokohama port outside Tokyo on Tuesday to inspect all 3,711 people on board because a man tested positive for the virus on Feb. 1 after disembarking in Hong Kong.

The Japanese military has taken the people who have the virus to local hospitals, the company said. Around half of the 2,666 passengers on board the ship are from Japan; 416 are from the U.S.

Nearly 2,000 people are also being held on another cruise ship called World Dream at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Cruise Terminal after several crew members reported symptoms associated with the coronavirus.

We cant simply compare the total number of fatalities. We need to look at is whats called the 'case fatality rates'. Which places SARS, MERS and 2019-nCov in a far more deadly catagory than say the common flu virus.

SARS case fatalities I think were around 10%. The common flu case fatalies are around 0.1% . Yes the percentages maybe somewhat off but you get the idea

The death toll is between what China have told us and what those alt-media have said.

s many experts question the veracity of China's statistics for the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, Tencent over the weekend seems to have inadvertently released what is potentially the actual number of infections and deaths, which were astronomically higher than official figures.

On late Saturday evening (Feb. 1), Tencent, on its webpage titled "Epidemic Situation Tracker," showed confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (2019nCoV) in China as standing at 154,023, 10 times the official figure at the time. It listed the number of suspected cases as 79,808, four times the official figure.

The number of cured cases was only 269, well below the official number that day of 300. Most ominously, the death toll listed was 24,589, vastly higher than the 300 officially listed that day.

Moments later, Tencent updated the numbers to reflect the government's "official" numbers that day. Netizens noticed that Tencent has on at least three occasions posted extremely high numbers, only to quickly lower them to government-approved statistics.

Some are speculating that a coding problem could be causing the real "internal" data to accidentally appear. Others believe that someone behind the scenes is trying to leak the real numbers.

Couple of reports I've heard from acquaintances... one from a medico in Singapore, says at least 90K infected, and that was about a week ago.

Another went back to China for CNY, and says he won't be back any time soon. Populace have been herded into apartment blocks, with the doors barred shut behind them. Bodies in the streets, that have lain there for at least a week.

Yep. Doctors and nurses in China are saying anonymously (for fear of arrest) that the actual numbers are perhaps 10x higher than the official numbers, meaning up to 250,000 infected and 5,000 dead.

All of this news is not good ... I believe that it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, but the report of 25k dead does not compute.

I know they like to have funerals and you can't hide that many deaths from the relatives they wouldn't stand for it.
