John Wayne makes a fine "Foreign Devil" in this sumptuous film from not too long after WW2.

Local tradition says the love story was true and she died of a broken heart, whereas historians say "Nah BS, it never happened".

I've always found "historians" to be boring killjoys, so I'm going with the locals on this one.

Great film by the way.

Barry Humphries wanted to make a 3rd Barry Mckenzie movie set in New York and had lots of good material, but......he was gazumped by Paul Hogan with "Crocodile Dundee".
