Iranian submarine emerges from 4 yr refit

err defit?

This boat is the Tareq, it looks like they removed the Anechoic Tiles like on the Yunis. Also this boat has the same cockeyed limber holes near the bow planes.

What's up with the conning tower? Looks like they formed it the old-fashioned way with smithing hammers and anvils.

Looking at this photo I get the feeling it's as silent as a AMC Gremlin going down a country road.

Are those patches on the side? Below the grill looking things. I agree on the conning tower, it looks like it has already been crush depth tested.

Probably hard patches left after swapping engines or batteries or some other similarly heavy equipment. Still, I've seen quilts that looked like they were made out of less mismatched pieces.

Well, it is a Kilo-class submarine. If it finished a 4-year refit, it is one of the three Russia sold them forever-and-a-day ago. From what I remember, all three of their Kilos were in a sore need for a refit. The pock-marked conning tower is almost certainly hull stress from decades of service. I wouldn't want to try to take that particular boat to 300 meters.

What's with the guy in white on the left, seems to be suspended and what's his right hand doing?

Looks like he's diving into the drydock- holding his nose with one hand and keeping his... er, 'periscope' from being damaged with the other.

haha I wondered about that photo too. Wasn't sure if he was having a little sly cigarette or something lol It didn't quite add up with the fact he is suspended in mid air though

Yeah, was going to ask the same question.

Could be a new secret weapon

That has to be a photoshopped picture. Look close. He is jumping in oily, dirty water. Yet he is full clothed - in white no less, along with socks and shoes. The socks and shoes are a big give away - who goes swimming (of any type) intentionally with socks and shoes on? Also, look how close he appears to be to the walkway - its like he "stepped" off instead of jumped. However, if he did - he wouldn't have had time to get into the current position - his legs would still be in the act of coming together from a walking gait. Had he jumped to give himself the time needed to get into that position - he wouldn't be shown as that close to the walkway - he literally could lean his head back and break his skull on the way down.

Details make me call bull on that one.
