It looks like some kind of Archimedean jobbie, so would it be for moving something along rather than drilling, as u crank asks?

Good question...it may have been indirectly used in a war effort, but not directly.

It moves a product, lots of them down the screw to the destination...and that then helps move the object that it is attached to.
