Default Hollywood Strike

'Where the is Ben Affleck?’: Striking actors aim their fury towards Hollywood A-listers as the megastars (with a few notable exceptions) are nowhere to be seen on the first day of protests against low pay and the threat of AI

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...d-listers.html

SAG strike: Actors join writers on Hollywood picket lines

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-66205719

The Black Mirror plot about AI that worries actors

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-66200334

Where is Ben Affleck they ask, hahaha, you bloody fools, don't you know?, self preservation has kicked in and, he, along with Tom Cruise and all the other A-listers have battened down the hatches and put their tin helmets on.

They might join the strike and they might not, I suspect not though, they aren't going to jeopardise their multi million dollar careers by giving their studio masters a smack in the bleeding kisser are they?.

Why haven't these A-Listers said they'll take a pay cut to help the little actors out?, greed that's why, they'll have to soldier on regardless and hope they can win this on their own. As for stopping AI Technology in the film industry, that's never going to happen.

Good Luck Peeps, you're going to need it.

And exactly what do you think a pay cut would actually accomplish?

It is not like there is a pool of money that is distributed to all the workers and if some take a cut others will get more. It does not work like that.

Everyone works off of a contract. In some cases, the terms of the contracts have not kept up with the changing economic model of movies.

Please keep in mind that only a fraction of hollywood actors make the big bucks. Don't judge an entire industry and especially the hard working people based on such a sample.

Lets see the positive in this strike. No more films made for the ideologized Oscars. No more daily soaps. No new Avenger or Marvel Comic movie. Whats bad in that?

So, a bunch of people who make more money than I ever dreamed of by pretending to do the stuff that I really, actually did, for chump change throughout the course of my military career, have gone on strike, demanding even more money?

Oh the humanity! However will I weather this storm?

Oh, wait. I don't pay any attention to the crap that oozes out of Hollywood.

Never mind. I'll be fine.

Do they really need AI? Can't they just make a wheel of fortune with space labels such as "another Indiana Jones film", "another marvel comic", "another Hanoi Jane snoozer". etc, etc.

You mean that's not the way they do it?

I like the idea of AI. Then we can have software that lets us choose the cast that we want to see.

Imagine Michael Berryman as Rick Blaine in, "Casablanca".

Or Vern Troyer as Rooster Cogburn in, "True Grit".

Or Melissa McCarthy as Dorothy in, "The Wizard of Oz".

Or Danny Trejo as Clarence Odbody in, "It's a Wonderful Life".

The possibilities are endless.

Yeah, with 80% of the product the film industry turns out is derivative crap, I say let the strike go on for a couple years. And actors? Dime a dozen.

I want to see Dick Van Dyke as 'Hilts' in The Great Escape (especially on the motor bike)

Or Jim Carrey as John McClane in Die Hard.

Or John Wayne as Hawkey in M*A*S*H

We have been used to see certain actors or actress playing some stereotyping rolls.

Bruce Willis can be found in action movies while Jim Carrey can be found in comedy movies.

Any work group has the right to strike i suppose.

However, it is rather difficult to excrete much in the way of sympathy for these actors, given the paychecks some of these folks draw for putting out such mediocre films the last several years.

If it weren't for comic book films, transformer movies, and reboots/reimagined versions of stuff we've seen a dozen times already i worry there wouldnt be but one or two movies in the theater every year

That's the problem. People are judging an entire industry based on the top salaries of the select few.

Most actors do not earn the mega salaries.

https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes272011.htm

Film actors earn an hourly mean wage of $38.92 per hour.

This is paid only for the time they are working. Actors do not work 2,080 hours a year.

Actors depend on the residual payments from past performances. With streaming, one of the things they are complaining about is the lack of residuals as the industry is still using old methods of calculating.

I get it, a lot of people resent the top paid actors. I get it. I don't care for them either. But there are a lot more people who are not earning that much.

We should not let our emotions about the top earners be applied to the many actors who have done us no wrong.

Here are the numbers for writers, in case anyone is interested in facts

https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes273043.htm
