Default Pitch black nights

The nights are pitch black, regardless of moon phase and cloud cover. I can see whitecaps close by, but I can't see the horizon. I just attempted to target a ship about ~400 m from my sub, under a clear quarter moon, but I had to guess at everything because even at that distance, all I could see was the bow wave and the wake.

I don't know how I'm ever going to be able to conduct a proper night attack against a convoy, if I can't see a damn thing.

I've installed the Brighter Nights option from Dynamic Environment 2.1 over my 2.9 installation, but it doesn't seem to help.

My suggestion is to enable the DynEnv v2.9 - Brighter Nights submod (normal version), together with Rubini's Moon light mod v1 and Sobers Realistic contrast V8 SH5. If nights are still too dark, switch back to Realistic Contrast V6, or remove sober's mod at all. If this is still not enough, try adjusting the gamma from the in-game graphics menu.

Looking out from the container crane last night , I couldn't see a ship 2 kilometres away towards the horizon . I could only make out the lights . Darken the room you are in or adjust your monitor gamma or ingame options gamma . Try tilting the monitor to get a better contrast . That's the reality at night , seeing ships on the horizon at night is for photoshop only .

Oh, adding them shouldn't take long. Can anyone provide information on type and number of navigation lights that a neutral vessel would have realistically displayed during WWII?

would the same regulations apply to WWII era shipping? Was there an international regulation on that matter, or each country applied its own rules?
