I'm still getting this problem, though it didn't happen in the training mission.

I am suspicious that it could be due to my playing in easy mode and might be the game attempting to stop me blowing up neutral shipping. Or is that a completely insane theory?

Tip: the early G7e's have only impact detonators, and it took me some time to figure that out. If you set it to magnetic you have already disarmed it before it even leaves the torpedo tube

I have a lot of duds in 1939/1940, too, but I find it keeps me from scoring unrealistically high tonnage, so I agree with it.

Given that the torpedo control panel is in German I can only take a vaguely educated guess at the trigger setting, but I think they are on impact. I can remember if I've seen a dud torpedo hit yet, but I was under the impression that they bounced off the target and went dead in the water, rather than passing through it cleanly.

If passing through the target is what dud torps do, then I guess that is what it could be, though I have duds turned off in the difficulty settings.

Hovis, what range were you shooting?

I vaguely remember torps passing through targets at ranges <300m; but, duds will visibly bounce off, not pass through.

All the best,

Hi all,

Totally noob to Operation Monsun, but with good experience of SHIV, I have the very same problem.

My version is stock SH4 v1.5 with mods installed via the Generic Mod Enabler :

My set-up :

OpsMonsun_V705
OMv705_to_V720
OMv720_Patch4
OMEGU_v300
OMEGU_v300_Patch6

1939, October 2nd - U-16 (Type IIB)
Shooting at a danish M-KF-M(C) Merchant.
Torpedo : G7a or G7e
Impact or Magnetic "Pistol"
Target range : 1000-1200 meters
Any depth.
Any speed.
The torpedo runs through the hull of the boat.

Seems i have the same problem when playing a US campaign. I try, just for testing, to launch a torpedo at a boat in harbor : it runs through the boat, but explodes when hitting the shore, behind the target.

On the torpedo targeting practice mission, howerver, torpedoes explode when hitting the target drone.

I can send a save of the situation, just before torpedo launch, if necessary.

I reinstalled all from scratch.

I couldn't use my savegame to try to destroy that "transparent" danish merchant, but i destroyed that boat at the exit of Pearl Harbor i didn't get yesterday.

I just began a new U-Boat career, i will see...
